Computer Gym

The Computer gym is run weekly at the centre and provide lessons that are specially designed to engage your child’s imagination. Their curriculum has been designed by Australian teachers to build on the learning programs that your child is currently receiving. Computer Gym develops a number of skills including computer skills, numeracy skills, literacy skills, self-esteem, creativity and social skills.

Fit & Funky

Fit & Funky provides children with a fun approach to dance, fitness and health, and aims to mitigate childhood obesity and encourage lifelong healthy habits. Classes are run weekly and last for 30 minutes. This is an optional activity for all children at the centre.

Sustainability Focus

The framework for sustainability initiatives at Hornsby Heights Preschool will be based on the four principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repair. As new information on how we can live more sustainably comes to light, we examine and manage lifestyles in a sustainable manner how it will have a global effect. Sustainability – throughout the day children participate in learning importance in how to recycle, reuse, reduce & repair.

Munch & Move

Munch and move is a NSW Health initiated fundamental gross motor skills program where children are guided to cultivate necessary fundamental skills. Munch & Move support healthy development of children by promoting physical activity, healthy eating, and reduced screen time. Munch & Move aligns with early childhood National Quality Framework (NQF).

“Our two boys attended Hornsby Heights Preschool for two years each. The staff are very dedicated and caring, ensuring the children are safe, settled and happy. Our boys loved the wide, open, grassy space at the back of the preschool. At pick-up time we would always find them happily playing in the large sandpit with their friends. There is a lovely community feel to the preschool and the multi-cultural backgrounds of families are valued and celebrated. A highlight of the year is the Christmas concert in which the kids perform and received a visit from Santa. Feedback from parents is both encouraged and taken on-board. I feel very lucky that both boys were fortunate to attend Hornsby Heights Preschool. Hornsby Heights Preschool acknowledges both the Darug and Guringai peoples as the traditional owners of the land where we learn and play. We strive to embed Aboriginal perspectives and practices in our everyday routines and programs, through spontaneous and intentional experiences.

Children

We give each child the opportunity to develop in a warm, creative and supportive environment where each child’s safety, happiness, personal potential and differences are recognised and encouraged. We provide opportunities for small group experiences in science, music, maths, reading and writing.

We recognise that every child learns best through play. Based on this we provide experiences which allows each child to acquire skills that enhance their positive social, emotional, cognitive, creative and physical development. We teach each child to respect diversity, to have an awareness for their environment and to actively practice sustainability at the preschool.

Families

We maintain regular communication between educators and families regarding their child’s health needs, interests and welfare. We have an open-door policy and encourage families to provide feedback, suggestions and opinions regarding our centre.

Educators

Each of our educators are respected for their individual abilities, interests, skills and experiences. Our educators ensure they keep up to date with new knowledge and training. Our educators respond to each child’s needs and use a variety of materials based on the children’s interests. Our educators are aware of the varying structures of the families attending the centre and provide support in relation to the family stresses that may arise.

Community

We acknowledge and value the importance of the community for our preschool. We invite a number of community groups to the centre to develop awareness, including the police, the ambulance, dentists and doctors. We value and support students studying childcare and allow these students to experience working at the childcare.
