What can I say! Words cannot describe how appreciative I am of the team at Croydon! As an early childhood professional I have been nothing but impressed with the educational experiences provided for my daughter. We have only been here for a short while but the amount of learning she is coming home with is amazing. Well done team, keep up the awesome work!

Platypus Junction Croydon's team of early learning professionals nurture each child, encourage their emerging talents and create an environment ideal to support wellbeing, learning and play.
The centre knows that having a dedicated, passionate and supported team is essential to ensure children and families receive the most from being a part of the Platypus Junction community. The educators understand how vital it is to provide a caring, supportive and creative environment for children. The centre invests a great deal of time in attracting and retaining the right members for the Platypus Junction Team. They must be passionate people with not only the best qualifications and experience but also the right qualities.
The educators develop educational experiences based on the National Quality Framework (NQF) and leading early learning philosophies from around the world. The curriculum is reflective of children’s interests and developed in conjunction with families and children.
Centre Director - Ashleigh Nathan
Ashleigh’s pedagogical philosophy and passion for Early Childhood Education has shaped her career journey. She started her teaching journey through completing her Bachelor of Early Childhood Education over 11 years ago in New Zealand and little did she know that teaching would be such a huge part of her life. Throughout her career progression, she has found the value of teaching and inspiring teaching practices along the way to support the best outcomes for children. Ashleigh strongly believes that partnerships are the foundation to building and developing strong reciprocal relationships between Centre and family units.
6 weeks - 12 months
The educators in the nursery focus on developing the children’s ability to engage in sensory play and discovery. This is how they explore and connect with the world. The nurturing environment is calm, bright and engaging; a safe space for them to rest, play and grow under the watchful eyes of their carers.
The educators follow a family’s routine to help make a child feel comfortable and safe. Time is spent building relationships between the educators and the children, to help the little ones grow into confident learners.
12 months - 3 years
The toddlers have plenty of room to explore and have fun in a safe space. The focus is on developing their sense of curiosity through play based learning, as well as their social skills. With their own garden area, the children can play in the sandpit, explore secret paths and even play with a giant xylophone.
The programs for the toddlers are designed to encourage discovery, learning and investigation through play; with the educators on hand to guide and support them. Independence is built upon as the children move from the indoor to outdoor programs on their own. The little ones here enjoy plenty of singing, dancing, painting, running, jumping, building and playing games - with programming guided by the children’s own interests.
3 years - school age
The educators in the kindergarten rooms are focused on preparing the children for the next steps in formal education. Both the 3 and 4 year old rooms have their own areas for art and music, as well as for active and passive activities. A love of learning develops as they engage with the educators in singing and dancing, craft, reading stories, trying new things and investigating areas of personal interest.
A tailored school readiness program prepares the children in the months leading up to their move to ‘big school’. Educators help with the transition to school and offer a detailed report to pass on to the child’s new school.
At Platypus Junction Croydon, the qualified chefs deliver a tasty and nutritionally balanced menu for the children. Rotating throughout the seasons, they cater for all dietary requirements such as allergies and medical conditions.
The centre has a focus on growing vegetables and herbs in the garden, which are used by the chef in the meal plans. The chef also runs cooking sessions with the children to teach them valuable skills about cooking and healthy eating.

Pre-school / Kindergarten / PrepPre-school is a planned educational program for children in the years before a child commences school. Children are usually aged between 3 and 5 years of age. Pre-school may take place in a range of settings including a purpose built building, in a community setting, a school, as part of a long day care centre or a mobile or visiting service.
In January 2012 the National Quality Framework (NQF) came into effect across Australia.
The purpose of the NQF is to improve and standardise the quality of child care through a
range of measures including better staff to child ratios, higher staff qualifications
and an assessment and rating system designed to promote continuous improvement.
Under the NQF child care services are assessed and rated against the National Quality Standards (NQS).
The NQS measures the quality of early childhood education and care in Australia. It will cover
most long day care, family day care, preschool/kindergarten and outside school hours care services.
Under these standards child care services will be assessed and rated against the
seven quality areas, 18 standards and 58 elements that make up the NQS.
