Greenwood’s home in Penrith has beautiful rooms, and outdoor areas constructed from eco-friendly materials, providing a spacious and exciting environment for your children to get in touch with nature! The outdoor areas feature sand pits, cubbyhouses, slides, a bike track and vegetable garden for children to plant seeds and watch them grow! With a range of programs suited to different age groups, the centre offers play-based curriculums with a strong foundation in education and features key numeracy and literacy concepts. The centre will offer extra-curricular activities to suite the desires of families, these often include sports, wellbeing, art, language and music.

At Greenwood Penrith, educators offer an inclusive program that recognises the unique existing knowledge, experience, abilities, interests and culture each child brings to the centre. The learning environment is designed to optimise learning opportunities, and guides the children’s play, rest and learning.
Guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), the centre’s choice of resources reflects diversity in culture, ethnicities, languages, family structures, gender and developmental capabilities which builds an understanding, respect and value of individuality. The environment offers children multiple play spaces so they can be creative, dramatic, messy, constructive, active, imaginative, and relaxed.
Educators work together with families to ensure that children feel safe and secure at the centre, and can cater for children with additional needs and individualised learning requirements.
The experienced educators plan and implement programs to build children’s confidence as learners across these key areas:
Regular daily interactions, including reading, storytelling and singing, promote an enjoyment and love of language while also developing phonological awareness and concepts of print. As children engage with drawing, painting and mark-making they are developing their emergent writing skills and beginning to recognise that symbols convey meaning.
Informal units of measurement, volume and capacity, patterns, sequencing and counting are often explored through sand and water play, loose parts play and construction. Books, songs, games, cooking and conversations offer further opportunities for children to learn about a range of number concepts.
Giving children an expressive and creative outlet to communicate their own ideas in an aesthetic and enjoyable manner is a key focus at the centre. Visual arts, music, dance, drama and media arts allow children to learn about each art form, engage in creative processes and utilise them as a tool for inquiry.
Music is experienced through a combination of both spontaneous and planned experiences, providing children with opportunities to have freedom when making and responding to music and musical concepts such as pitch, beat, dynamics, tone and tempo. The joy of music is often expressed through dance and movement, as well as drama such as role-play games to help them to make sense of their world.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
Using an inquiry-based model, children are encouraged to be curious about real world problems and explore a range of open-ended materials to problem solve. STEM encourages children to be imaginative and innovative in a collaborative environment with space to investigate a problem over an extended period of time.
Culture & Sustainability
The centre’s program encompasses a comprehensive sustainability focus, where the children are educated about sustainability issues on a local, national and global level. Learning about and in local environments develops children's awareness, respect and value for community and places of cultural significance. The children engage in everyday practices including recycling and reusing materials, as well as water and energy conservation.
At Greenwood Penrith, each of the rooms is designed to provide the best possible early learning experience for each child, and to help them develop a love of learning. A combination of indoor and outdoor activities are planned for the children. The routines arranged by the educators allow for individual learning, small group learning, and large group learning.
Nursery rooms: 0 – 24 months
Educators try to provide a home away from home where children feel safe and secure. The children’s wellbeing and development is the focus, with age appropriate activities. Children take part in tummy time, sensory play, reading and singing. Literacy and numeracy is introduced through real life experiences with educators.
2 – 3 years
Educators encourage the children to learn through play with a flexible routine. This will take the form of music, dance, games, and reading. Group play is designed to develop confidence and social skills. Books and language games are enjoyed, to develop communication, literacy and numeracy.
3 – 5 years
Children lead the curriculum depending on their interests and preferences for play. Play is used to encourage development, through music, dance, games, reading and lots of outdoor fun. Activities such as science, technology, engineering and maths are introduced. A school readiness program will help children prepare for the next step in their education.

At Greenwood Penrith, educators understand that establishing healthy eating habits from an early age lays the foundation for lifelong health and wellbeing. Children enjoy a nutritious morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, all prepared daily by the centre chef. The meals all fall within the Australian Dietary Guidelines for children and are high-quality, allowing young bodies to thrive both mentally and physically.
At Greenwood Pentrith, the focus is on providing children with simple, nutrient-rich, unprocessed and seasonal whole foods. Educators take the opportunity to teach the children about the importance of healthy lifestyles and cooking. This is integral to children’s wellbeing and self-confidence, which in turn contributes to their ability to concentrate and learn.
Some of the centre’s DIY menu options (such as wraps for lunch) allow children to create their own dishes – allowing for growing independence and satisfaction in being able to do things for themselves.
The children enjoy cereal and toast for breakfast; meals such as pasta, tacos, noodles and curry for lunch; plus fruit, crackers and dip, homemade muffins, smoothies and sandwiches for snacks.
Educators encourage the children to manage their hunger and fullness, help with serving food, and tidy up. This helps promote an understanding of making healthy choices and developing social skills around food. Children also participate in cooking experiences to help them learn in a hands-on way. Flexible mealtimes are offered to allow children the opportunity of uninterrupted learning experiences.
Care for children under school age, on premises especially built or adapted for early childhood education and care services. Private operators, local councils, community organisations, employers and non-profit organisations may run long day care centres.Occasional, Casual or Flexible Care
Occasional, Flexible or Casual Care Services provide short periods of care for children under school age. Families can access Occasional, Flexible or Casual Care on either a regular or casual basis a variety of reasons including, shift or part-time work, respite care, crisis and emergency care, shopping or attending appointments.Pre-school / Kindergarten / Prep
Pre-school is a planned educational program for children in the years before a child commences school. Children are usually aged between 3 and 5 years of age. Pre-school may take place in a range of settings including a purpose built building, in a community setting, a school, as part of a long day care centre or a mobile or visiting service.
In January 2012 the National Quality Framework (NQF) came into effect across Australia.
The purpose of the NQF is to improve and standardise the quality of child care through a range of measures including better staff to child ratios, higher staff qualifications and an assessment and rating system designed to promote continuous improvement.
Under the NQF child care services are assessed and rated against the National Quality Standards (NQS).
The NQS measures the quality of early childhood education and care in Australia. It will cover
most long day care, family day care, preschool/kindergarten and outside school hours care services.
Under these standards child care services will be assessed and rated against the seven quality areas, 18 standards and 58 elements that make up the NQS.
