Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

At Penrith Early Learning Centre, we believe that healthy bodies fuel healthy minds. Nutrition is an important part of our daily program, supporting children’s growth, development, concentration and overall wellbeing.

We proudly follow the NSW Health Munch & Move program, which promotes healthy eating and active lifestyles in early childhood settings. Through this initiative, children learn about nutritious food choices, the importance of drinking water, and developing lifelong healthy habits in a fun and engaging way.

All meals are freshly prepared onsite by our dedicated in-house chef, who cooks everything from scratch each day. Our seasonal menus are carefully planned to meet the Australian Dietary Guidelines and provide a balanced variety of fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, lean proteins and dairy. We cater to all dietary requirements, allergies and cultural preferences, ensuring every child feels included and nourished.

Our centre also features thriving vegetable gardens, where children actively participate in planting, watering and harvesting fresh produce. This hands-on experience helps children develop an understanding of where food comes from, encourages environmental responsibility, and builds excitement around trying new fruits and vegetables — often ones they have grown themselves!

At Penrith Early Learning Centre, mealtimes are valuable learning opportunities. Educators sit with children to model positive eating habits, encourage conversation, and promote independence and self-help skills. We are committed to creating a positive food environment where children feel confident exploring new tastes and building a healthy relationship with food.

About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to support each child’s individual learning journey. Guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, our program focuses on belonging, being and becoming, ensuring children develop strong foundations for lifelong learning.

Our curriculum is play-based and child-centred, recognising that children learn best through hands-on experiences, exploration and meaningful interactions. Educators carefully observe children’s interests, strengths and emerging skills, using these insights to plan intentional learning experiences that extend their thinking and development.

We embed literacy, numeracy, science, creativity and problem-solving naturally throughout the day, while also supporting social and emotional development, resilience and independence. Learning experiences are flexible and responsive, allowing children to take the lead in their discoveries while educators guide, scaffold and challenge their thinking.

Through strong partnerships with families and ongoing reflection, we ensure our curriculum remains dynamic, inclusive and responsive to our community. At Penrith Early Learning Centre, we are committed to creating a rich learning environment where every child feels valued, capable and inspired to learn.

Safety

Safety

The safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We are committed to providing a secure and nurturing environment where children feel safe, supported and protected at all times.

All educators and staff complete mandatory Child Protection training and hold current Working With Children Checks, which are reviewed quarterly to ensure ongoing compliance. Our team participates in regular professional development to remain confident in recognising, responding to and reporting concerns in line with Child Protection legislation and best practice guidelines. We maintain clear, comprehensive policies and procedures to uphold children’s rights and safeguard their wellbeing.

Our centre is equipped with CCTV monitoring across key areas of the service, providing an additional layer of security and peace of mind for families. Secure entry points, controlled access and strict sign-in and sign-out procedures ensure that only authorised individuals can enter the service.

Regular risk assessments, daily safety checks and scheduled emergency drills are conducted to maintain a safe physical environment. Through proactive supervision, thorough training and strong governance practices, we are dedicated to creating a setting where children can confidently learn, play and grow in a safe and protected environment.

Kindergarten/Preschool Programs

Kindergarten/Preschool Programs

Our School Readiness Program is built around play-based and interest-based learning, recognising that children learn best when they are engaged, curious and having fun.

Through intentional, play-based experiences, children develop the foundational skills they need for a confident transition to primary school. Literacy and numeracy concepts are embedded naturally into everyday play — whether it’s writing signs in the home corner, counting during block construction, recognising letters in their name, or exploring patterns and problem-solving through hands-on activities.

Our program is guided by children’s interests, allowing educators to extend learning in meaningful and relevant ways. By following children’s curiosities, we foster critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and resilience — all essential skills for lifelong learning.

Special experiences such as Lunch Box Week help children prepare for the practical aspects of school life. During this week, children practise opening containers, managing their own food, making healthy choices, and developing independence and responsibility. Show and Tell provides opportunities to build confidence in speaking, listening and sharing ideas in a group setting, strengthening communication and social skills.

At Penrith Early Learning Centre, we focus on the whole child — supporting not only academic foundations, but also emotional regulation, independence, social competence and self-confidence — ensuring every child feels capable, prepared and excited for their transition to school.

Thank you to PELC for taking good care of my son for the past few years. Thank you for your kindness, patience and your hard work and commitment in looking after him. As his very first school, he has experienced so many firsts here including building his first few friendships of his life and the love of his teachers. Thank you again for everything you have done for his first few years of life. We will miss you
