Early childhood is a crucial phase of development, and fostering a supportive environment is vital for a child's growth. 'Belonging, Being, and Becoming', a cornerstone of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) in Australia, provides a foundation for early childhood teachers and educators to develop programs for children. KU Children's Services has highly experienced and qualified early childhood professionals implementing the EYLF in its early childhood education services. Let's explore how KU, with its wealth of experience and commitment to excellence, embraces the principles of Belonging, Being, and Becoming.

Belonging: Connecting Hearts and Minds

Belonging, as per the EYLF, is integral to human existence. It is about knowing where and with whom you belong. KU Children's Services understands the significance of this concept and actively fosters an inclusive environment. Through trusting relationships and affirming experiences, KU ensures that every child feels a sense of belonging.

“At KU, educators have a sound knowledge of each child’s individual needs and plan appropriately to support the child’s sense of belonging within the service,” explains Sally Beesley, Education and Quality Manager Lead, KU Children’s Services. Diverse experiences and open communication create an inclusive space, nurturing a strong sense of belonging for each child.

Being: Embracing the Present and Shaping Identities

Childhood is a time to be, to seek meaning in the world, and to recognise the significance of the present. Being involves knowing oneself, building relationships, and navigating life's joys and complexities. KU prioritises the individual identity and wellbeing of each child in its programs.

As Brooke Rankin, Education and Quality Manager Lead, KU Children’s Services explains, “At KU, we value collaborative partnerships with families. Through these we gain information about each child from their family, which supports the understanding of each child’s individual needs, goals, and aspirations to enhance their learning and growth.”

Through a play-based approach and the expertise of qualified teachers and educators, KU encourages children to be in the here and now. The focus is not solely on preparing for the future, but on cherishing the present moments of exploration and discovery.

Becoming: A Journey of Growth and Collaboration

Children's identities, knowledge, and relationships undergo rapid changes in the early years. Becoming, as outlined in the EYLF, emphasises the collaborative efforts of educators, families, and children.

“KU focuses on the dispositions of learning such as hypothesising, problem solving, experimenting and perseverance to support lifelong learning,” explains Sally. KU's approach is collaborative, focusing on enhancing children's connections and capabilities, actively preparing them as citizens for the journey ahead.

Shaping Futures, One Child at a Time

KU Children's Services, with a legacy dating back to 1895, enriches the lives of over 10,000 children and their families each year. KU is excited to announce the opening of two new services – KU Monash Children’s Centre and Kindergarten at Monash University Peninsula Campus in Frankston, Melbourne, and KU Koo Wee Rup Kindergarten, south-east of Melbourne. These purpose-built facilities offer expansive indoor and outdoor environments, ensuring a holistic learning experience.

KU’s commitment to enriching children's learning is evident through its play-based approach and collaboration with families and communities. From a child's first visit to their transition to school, KU’s team of qualified teachers and educators work tirelessly to bring out the best in every child. “KU supports services in their role to foster children’s learning through several specialised teams who provide additional resourcing to further develop children’s skill and capacity,” explains Brooke.

KU services, including preschools, kindergartens, long day care and more, have been independently assessed as among the highest quality in the country. Recent changes to government subsidies make early childhood education and care at KU more affordable, ensuring that quality education is accessible to all.

Choosing KU Children's Services means opting for an environment where belonging, being, and becoming are not just principles, but lived experiences. See, hear, and feel the difference at KU – where we nurture young minds, creating a brighter future. For more information, explore KU’s website and discover why families should choose KU here.
