Cost of Care

Do I still have to pay for childcare when my child is sick or absent?

In most cases, you will still need to pay for childcare when your child is sick. This is because childcare services must maintain staffing ratios, hold your child’s place and continue operating regardless of daily attendance. While the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) covers up to 42 allowable absences per year, fees still apply during these days. Some services may offer reduced fees for extended absences, holidays, or special circumstances, but policies vary. Understanding how sick day fees work and planning for occasional absences can help reduce financial surprises and make this part of childcare life more manageable.
