Programs
Programs
Children thrive in a stable environment, and centre programs are designed to reflect a child’s home life. The centre’s holistic programs help children nurture individual strengths, interests and needs, while also building important school readiness, independence and self-help skills.
Long Day Care
During long day care, educators focus on developing strong relationships with children, to nurture a sense of belonging and security. Educators welcome in-depth discussions with parents and carers to ensure that day to day activities and care match home routines.
The program from babies to toddlers includes tailored activities and learning spaces that foster children’s natural curiosity and imagination. Educators use play-based learning to strengthen communication, emotional and social skills.
Preschool
The preschool program for children aged 3 to 5 introduces children to reading, writing and creativity, whilst building self-confidence, emotional strength, and self-discipline. The preschool program includes:
- physical development through fun activities such as skipping, running, hopping, throwing, and catching the ball
- early mathematical concepts through puzzles
- memory-sharpening activities
- language and vocabulary development with games, stories, and rhymes
- pre-writing and listening skills
- drawing, painting and music

Parent communication and involvement
Parent communication and involvement
Manglessi Early Learning Centre proudly builds quality connections with centre families and the wider community.
To strengthen family relationships, the team invites parents to share information on children’s interests, cultural background and home life. Parents are welcome to speak with educators during drop off and pick up, or to make an appointment for a longer discussion.
Family involvement in the curriculum is encouraged and supported, and regular discussions with parents gives educators valuable insight for the educational program.
The centre welcomes families to special events and celebrations. It also keeps families up to date with children’s activities and centre events.
About the curriculum
About the curriculum
The centre has developed a holistic curriculum in line with two frameworks: The Early Years Learning Framework and the WA Kindergarten Curriculum Guidelines.
These frameworks are designed to support children in their early years of development with a holistic, play-based learning curriculum. Educators deliver programs that cater to the developmental needs and interests of every child. The flexible curriculum provides for children’s social, physical, emotional and intellectual potential, including language skills and creativity.
The curriculum supports the active participation of children. Experiences are presented in ways that children can make choices and use different processes to complete tasks where more than one solution is possible. A secure and comfortable environment also supports children to be as independent as possible.
The centre follows a UK based program called ‘Letters and sounds’ as well as a handwriting program by Peggy Lego called ‘I do, I understand’. These are programs used by schools in the local area to support a smooth transition to kindergarten.

Morning
Emma is 13 months old and this morning she is playing with a colourful, musical toy. An educator sits with her as she pulls on each string, and delights at the different sounds.
Lunch
After a nap, it’s story time. Emma sits on a cosy rug while an educator reads her a story. She loves tracing her hand over the pictures of trees and animals.
Afternoon
This afternoon it’s messy play time. An educator helps Emma dip her hand in bright green paint, and then make fun pictures with her hand.
Morning
Arden is two years old and he loves to play outside. Today an educator is teaching Arden and his friends about the vegetable garden, and he is excited to help water the plants.
Lunchtime
It’s a beautiful sunny day today so all of the children have lunch outside on a picnic blanket. Afterwards, Arden plays in the sandpit, making his very own imaginary garden out of sand.
Afternoon
In the afternoon, Arden plays with some coloured blocks. He practises putting them in piles of one, two, three and four.
Morning
Jilly is 5 years old. She loves to cook in the centre’s toy kitchen and today she is pretending to make a cake. She puts a favourite toy on each seat of the kitchen table, then counts out one plate for everyone.
Lunchtime
Jilly is feeling very grown up because she starts big school next year. She has been learning the alphabet with her friends, and now practises writing her name.
Afternoon
It’s time for music and dance. Jilly chooses a drum and she beats it and stamps her feet as an educator plays her favourite song.
