2003 – 2006
Literacy Teacher – The Learning Centre, Cronulla & Rose Bay
Roles & Responsibilities: Teaching early literacy to children aged 3-13 years and some had complex needs such as autism and challenging behaviour. It was her role to mediate with the child’s family and school on their ongoing academic progress as she undertook an educational program with the child. Lisa was required to make an initial educational assessment to determine the child’s learning style and reading level using a variety o f education al assessment methods such as visualising and verbalising and Spalding. From her assessment and after consultation with the school and family, Lisa would allocate the child a suitable program. She was required to submit a written report of the child’s progress weekly and comprehensively at the conclusion of the child’s time with the centre. Lisa still works here on a casual basis.

2003 – 2004
Teacher – Adult Migrant English Program and TAFE, Sutherland
Roles & Responsibilities: Working in the capacity of teacher with newly arrived migrants and refuges in government funded English programs. This was particularly challenging work, as many of the students allocated to Lisa were not literate in their native language so Lisa was often facilitating the learning of a very diverse group of needs from basic literacy skills through to functional English for entering the workforce within the one classroom. This work drew on Lisa’s strengths of empathy and emotional maturity in dealing with some students who were survivors of torture and trauma.
