About Nido Early School Essendon

Welcome to Nido Early School Essendon!

  • Unleash curiosity with diverse activities like cooking, dance, languages, music, sports, yoga, and more.
  • Immerse children in Reggio Emilia-inspired spaces, fostering hands-on sensory experiences.
  • Prioritise body and mind nourishment with exclusive, sugar-free wholefood menus prepared in on-site kitchens.

Catering to children aged 6 weeks to 6 years, Nido Early School offers a warm and nurturing learning environment. Following a Reggio Emilia inspired approach, the educators engage the children in fun, play-based learning. They deliver an innovative program that helps children to develop the skills they’ll need to successfully transition to primary school.

The light-filled interiors are bright and inspiring, drawing the children into their learning. The rooms are well resourced with calming, natural resources, with each room catering to different learning styles and offering ample space for both individual play and group activities.

Outdoors, the children are free to explore the incredible play area and immerse themselves in nature. While they play, they develop their gross motor and physical skills and also work on their social skills, such as sharing and communication. The children are encouraged to use their imagination and create their own adventures while they play.

Conveniently located close to public transport, the service also offers ample parking on site to help with drop off and pick up.

We recognise the importance of selecting the right Early School and are committed to nurturing a love for lifelong learning.

Safety

Safety

Safety matters every day.
Every day, safety comes first at Nido. Across all our early schools, we work tirelessly to uphold the highest standards in safety. This commitment underpins every decision we make and every interaction we have with children and families.

We have embedded the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations across all our practices to ensure safe behaviours, environments, and accountability are part of everything we do.

Strong supervision and ongoing training
All Educators participate in an 8-week active supervision program, along with regular training and safety alerts. This ensures teams are vigilant, responsive, and prepared for every situation.

Safe design, technology and electronic devices
Our early school layouts are designed for maximum visibility and supervision. CCTV is installed externally at most of our early schools to enhance security. For the protection of all children, the use of personal devices to take photos or videos of children is prohibited for all Nido team members, students, volunteers, and visitors.

Rigorous recruitment and compliance
Our recruitment process includes enhanced screening, comprehensive reference checks, and clear expectations around child safety. Working with Children Checks are strictly managed and continuously monitored.

Professional learning and guidance
Educators receive regular training through leading Registered Training Organisations. Policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current legislation and best practice, ensuring everyone understands the behaviours and standards expected.

Comprehensive health and safety
We maintain secure single-point entry systems, and our staff are trained in first aid, asthma, anaphylaxis care, and food safety. We follow strict medication management protocols, a Cancer Council-accredited Sun Smart policy, and promote hygiene through engaging activities. Our schools take allergies seriously, including nut awareness, to help keep every child safe and included at mealtimes. Any incidents are documented and promptly communicated with families.

Meet the team

Meet the team

Nido Early School is committed to quality care and learning delivered by an outstanding team of degree-qualified teachers and skilled educators. The team inspires and challenges each other, working together to collectively offer the very best in childcare.

The service hires only passionate and committed team members. It provides a comprehensive induction and onboarding program. All staff also have enhanced learning and development opportunities through the ECA Learning Hub, an online professional learning platform designed specifically for early childhood education and care professionals.

Parent communication and involvement

Parent communication and involvement

Nido Early School understands that no one knows a child like their family. The service actively engages with parents and family members to ensure children have the very best care.

The team works with family members at enrolment and also regularly seeks updates on children’s schedules and current interests. This helps them to develop tailored programs that meet individual educational, physical, cultural and emotional needs.

Parents are welcome to chat with staff at drop off and pick up, and to contact the team at any stage via phone, email or the service’s ‘Playground’ App. The service regularly sends updates on children’s progress, and photos and videos of children during play and learning activities.

With an ‘open door policy’, parents are welcome to join in activities and events, and to share breakfast with children at the popular breaky bar.

Programs

Programs

Educators and teachers aim to ensure all children feel welcome, valued and excited about learning, with a range of innovative programs.

Education: inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, the educators equip the children with the skills needed for school and beyond.

Wellbeing: through yoga, mindfulness, art and self-regulation strategies, the children learn to express their feelings.

Community: the educators encourage community engagement to foster belonging, empathy, responsibility and caring in the children. They also learn about diverse cultures, values and languages including Indigenous culture.

We’ve been attending this centre for ~ 4 months now. The centre, especially the common areas are often dirty, glass and high touch areas are not wiped frequently to control any infections such as HFM and gastro. It’s visible dirt and it makes you feel gross dropping off or picking up. I’ve mentioned to the staff multiple times and they’ve said that the cleaners come twice a week. I’ve even started taking a wipe to clean bits as I walk through. Transitions and orientations were met with more lip service than actual service delivery as the systems we were told would happen we haven’t seen all of yet. And the staff broke the golden rule of child care workers- don’t tell parents that a child has walked before they tell you they have! This demonstrates a lack of a culture of family first care feeding through the company when this isn’t policy.

Our daughter has been going to this centre for almost a year now, and it genuinely feels like a real community. From the induction through to the trial days, the experience has been smooth and positive and most importantly, our little one absolutely loves it. She’s built great connections with several educators, and it really shows at drop-off and pick-up when she’s all smiles. We really appreciate the collaborative approach between educators and parents. Every few months we set new goals together, which helps guide her learning and development. The centre’s app is also fantastic it’s so nice being able to check in on her day and see photos of what she’s been up to. Recently our daughter needed glasses, and the educators couldn’t have been more supportive. They even ran a little session to help explain it to the other kids, which meant a lot to us! Highly recommend Essendon Nido

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our family has had an absolutely wonderful experience at Nido Early Learning Centre Essendon since our son started attending at the beginning of this year after relocating to the area. What stands out most is the genuine care and dedication of the educators. Our son has formed strong bonds with his teachers, and it's clear they truly care about each child's development and wellbeing. The entire staff contributes to creating a warm, welcoming community atmosphere that makes both children and parents feel valued. The daily program is excellent - our son comes home excited to tell us about the various incursions, activities, and adventures he's had throughout the day. It's wonderful to see him so engaged and enthusiastic about learning. The variety of experiences offered keeps him stimulated and curious. The facilities are modern, well-maintained, and spotlessly clean, which gives us tremendous peace of mind knowing our son is in a safe and hygienic environment. The attention to detail in maintaining the centre really shows the professionalism of the team. As working parents, it's invaluable to have complete confidence that our child is not just being looked after, but is truly thriving in such a nurturing environment. We couldn't be happier with our choice and would highly recommend Nido Early Learning Centre Essendon to any families in the area. Thank you to all the staff for making our son's early learning journey such a positive one!
