We have loved our time at Community Kids, Bayswater! This was our first experience with a child care service and we couldn’t have asked for a better one. Our daughter was always excited to attend and has had many fun opportunities (like painting, crafting, lots of outside time). The centre manager is great with communicating to parents/caters and you often see him in the room interacting with the children. All the Educators are fantastic, kind and caring. We would recommend this centre to parents looking for somewhere smaller but with lots of fun opportunities for their children!

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber

Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years

Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and through experimentation. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play including sensory play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing.

Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years

Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games, role playing and reading experiences.

On any given day the Toddlers can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.

Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn-taking, developing self-confidence and emotional self-regulation. Our skilled team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.

Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years

Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program has school readiness at its core, encouraging active engagement in learning and supporting a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.

The oral language supports literacy learning and a child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's literacy development by engaging in rich discussions, reading, storytelling, dramatic play and experimentation all of which introduce new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations.

Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.

Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, are supported through group learning experiences. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Our goal in the Kindergarten year is to prepare children and families for a smooth transition to primary school.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

Our centre chef prepares and cooks nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating across a wide variety of food.

Our centre offers seasonal whole food-based menus – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Meet the team

Meet the team

Hi, my name is Gurlal, and I am the Centre Manager here at Community Kids Bayswater. Relationships are at the heart of learning. When children feel safe, seen, and supported, they are more willing to explore, take risks, and express themselves.

I began working in early childhood education in 2020 and joined the Bayswater team in 2025. My background includes a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) and a Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education. I started my journey as an Early Childhood Teacher, then stepped into a Curriculum Leader role in 2023, and have been a Centre Manager since September 2024.

I come from a family of teachers and was always surrounded by strong, positive role models in education. Although I began my academic path in business, I felt a strong calling to make a meaningful impact during the formative years of children’s lives. What I love most about this field is the opportunity to support children, guide educators, and work in partnership with families every single day. It’s a truly rewarding and purpose-driven career.

Over the years, I’ve learnt that children are incredibly capable, curious, and resilient. They each bring their own unique strengths and ways of engaging with the world, and I believe our role as educators is to listen deeply, respond meaningfully, and provide the right conditions for their growth. Relationships are at the heart of learning. When children feel safe, seen, and supported, they are more willing to explore, take risks, and express themselves. These early years lay the foundation for their identity, well-being, and lifelong love of learning.

As Centre Manager, I’m passionate about creating a warm, high-quality environment where children can thrive. I believe in honouring each child’s individuality and building strong connections with families and educators alike. I lead with empathy and collaboration, supporting my team to reflect on their practice and continuously grow. We aim to provide rich, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experiences that inspire and challenge children in all the right ways.

When speaking with families, I always acknowledge that home is a child’s first teacher. At the same time, I help them understand the added benefits of a dedicated early learning environment. Our curriculum is play-based, intentionally designed, and led by trained educators who know how to observe, extend, and scaffold each child’s learning. Our early learning centre also offer invaluable opportunities for children to develop social skills, learning how to share, cooperate, and navigate friendships in a safe and supported space.

I feel incredibly lucky to be leading such a dedicated and experienced team here at Community Kids Bayswater. Many of our educators have been with the centre for several years and bring a wealth of knowledge about the children, families, and local community. What stands out most is their genuine passion for what they do. This is a team that shows up every day with care, professionalism, and a commitment to quality early education.

Supporting families is a big part of my role, and I do this by being present, approachable, and responsive. I take the time to get to know each family, their values, and their needs. Whether it’s easing the transition into care, helping with routines, or connecting families to community resources, I work to build strong, trusting relationships based on open communication and mutual respect. My goal is for every family to feel confident, heard, and supported throughout their journey with us here at our Bayswater early education centre.
