About Barfa Bear Child Care Centre

Welcome to Barfa Bear Childcare!

A Family owned and operated Christian Child Care Centre for children aged 2-5 years

We believe that all children are special, individual, precious gifts from God.

Con & Dora Savva always dreamed of opening a child care centre – and in January 2006, their dream finally came true with the opening of BarfaBearChild Care Centre.

Barfa Bear has a real warm home-like setting. From outside the building you would not think it was a child care centre, and that’s how we like it! Barfa Bear is licensed for 36 children per day, between the ages of 2yrs-5yrs. We are open 7.30am – 6.00pm approx. 50 weeks per year, closing at no charge to families over the Christmas/New Years period.

  • Bear ChildCare Bus Excursions: the centre has its very own excursion bus that improves learning opportunities for the older children by taking them on excursions to stimulate their creative minds. Excursions include visiting a local aged care facility, local parks, Bunnings, the library or supermarket. The children love using the centre’s bus to explore further afield.
  • Sustainability program: includes activities such as gardening, worm farms, compost bins, recycling, Return & Earn program and major recycling projects.
  • Incursions: children enjoy experiences such as chicken hatching, reptile shows, and Indigenous presentations.
  • Cooking experiences: the children help with meal prep, collecting ingredients from the veggie garden, and enjoying demonstrations from the centre cook.
  • School readiness program: preparing children for formal education, working closely with families and local schools.
  • Munch & Move program: focuses on fresh, nutritious food for the children, as well as an outdoor physical developmental program.

Barfa Bear is an air-conditioned building with security intercom for parental access.

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

2 - 4 years

This room combines two age groups, offering children the chance to interact with children of different ages. Three or four educators are in this room, each dedicated to a specific age group and working with the children’s own interests. Children enjoy the outdoor space which offers plenty opportunities for physical play to develop gross motor skills.

Health & nutrition

Health & nutrition

All of the nutritious meals and snacks are prepared in house daily, following a menu approved by the NSW Department of Health’s Munch & Move program. As a Christian service, the centre celebrates festivities such as Easter and Christmas, and a Prayer of Grace is said before lunch.

The centre cooks prepare everything from scratch, such as chicken stock, fresh rich bolognese sauce, and the fruit and vegetable purees for the younger ones.  Children all bring in a piece of fruit or a vegetable to put in the basket in the foyer, to share with their friends as they learn to contribute to their community.

The children are all seated at the table with an educator and are encouraged to talk about their meal items. The children self-serve their meals, with the educators eating with the children to role-model healthy eating and manners.  The children are also then responsible for clearing their plates in preparation for compost and worm farms.

Some of the children’s favourite meals include shepherds pie, chickpea vegetable stew, chicken stir fry hokkien noodles, spinach and feta spanakopita and fish cakes with broccoli, cauliflower and sweet peas.

Programs

Morning

Edward is two and a half and loves to start his day outdoors. Today he is enjoying the sandpit with his friends, loading sand into the back of the toy trucks.

Lunch

Edward sits with his friends and educators while they learn a new song which will help them learn the colours of the rainbow.

Afternoon

Edward loves being helpful, so he is assisting the educators to weed and water the vegetable garden. He picks a few cherry tomatoes to try out as well.

Barfa Bear has provided us with the utmost professional and loving care for our daughter. We realised this is where our daughter needs to be after our first induction and meeting. They have clear goals, passion and beliefs and one on one care educator to child for their personal growth. Very grateful to the entire team for everything they do, very grateful to be a part of this wonderful childcare and seeing such a positive impact and change in my child. Thank you

Barfabear Child Care Centre is the best Centre in NSW, and dare I say Australia. My 3-year-old currently attends the center, as did my 18-year-old daughter many years ago. The teachers, the vibe, the environment, the care the educators show the kids is exceptional.
