Cost of Child Care Toolkit

Child care is an expensive necessity for most Australian families, however, financial support is available via the Child Care Subsidy and a range of other subsidies which may be available depending on a family’s situation.

Navigating your way through all the government information can be time consuming and confusing, so we have compiled this tool kit to simplify the process.

Overview on Child Care Costs

Our article on Cost of Child Care offers a general overview on prices and is a helpful place to start your research.

Our Child Care Widget can also help you work out the average cost of child care centres in your area.

Government Support

The Child Care Subsidy replaced the Child Care Benefit and Child Care Rebate in July 2018 and is the main way the government supports families with the cost of care.

Grandparents with primary responsibility for caring for children may be eligible for the Additional Child Care Subsidy (ACCS) - Grandparents.

In addition, the Additional Child Care Subsidy (ACCS) Transition to Work is available to help people with the cost of child care as they undertake activities to help them get back to full time work.

Family Tax Benefit PART A and PART B may also be available to your family if you meet certain criteria.
