Why is my child getting sick so often after starting childcare (and is it normal)?

It’s very common for children to get sick more often when they first start childcare. Young children are still building their immune systems, and childcare brings them into regular contact with other children, shared spaces and everyday germs. Colds, gastro and hand, foot and mouth disease are some of the common illnesses families may come across. While this stage can feel relentless, many mild illnesses are part of early childhood. Always keep your child home when required by your service’s illness policy, and seek medical advice if symptoms are severe, worsening or you’re worried.
