We absolutely love Pelican Childcare Newbury. I have one child in the 4-year-old kinder room and another in nursery, and the care they receive has been amazing. My four-year-old has truly come out of his shell since starting kinder. His confidence, social skills, and overall development have grown so much, and it’s clear how much effort the educators put into supporting him as an individual. My one-year-old has been attending since he was 9 months old, and the transition was made exceptionally easy. He has eczema, and the team go above and beyond to follow his care procedures and ensure he’s comfortable and well looked after at all times. As a parent, that level of care and attention gives me so much peace of mind. A special thank you to both Sarahs, Chelsey, and Deepika — you are all truly incredible and make such a difference to our children’s lives. We’re so grateful to be part of this centre and couldn’t recommend Pelican Childcare Newbury more highly.

About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber

Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years

Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and by experimenting. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play, water play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing!

Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years

Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games and reading experiences.

On any given day the Toddler children can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.

Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn taking, developing self confidence and emotional self regulation. Our team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.

Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years

Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program encourages active engagement in learning and supports a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.

The oral language supports literacy learning. A child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's development by engaging in rich discussions, introducing new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations, as well as singing, playing games, and reading with the children daily.

Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.

Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, is supported through group learning environments. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Lastly, ensuring that all children are ready for the ‘big school’ by preparing them for all that ‘big school’ has to offer.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

Our centre chef prepares and cooks healthy and nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating.

Our centre offers children nutrient-rich, unprocessed, and seasonal whole foods – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hi, my name is Sarah, and I am the Centre Manager here at Pelican Newbury Boulevard. My passion is creating a safe, nurturing environment where children can grow, learn, and reach their fullest potential.

I have worked in the early childhood sector since 2002 and joined the Newbury Boulevard centre in 2025. My career began in before and after school care before I joined our sister centre – Pelican Craigieburn in 2006 as a Lead Educator, later progressing into Assistant Centre Manager roles and, in 2025, Centre Manager. Throughout my career, I have developed a strong passion for children’s learning and wellbeing, and I believe every child’s learning journey is unique. Building strong, respectful partnerships between families and educators is central to my approach, as children thrive when they feel supported, understood, and secure.

My passion is creating a safe, nurturing environment where children can grow, learn, and reach their fullest potential. I enjoy sharing with families the social, emotional, and learning benefits of early childhood education, including independence, self-regulation, language development, and peer relationships, and the lifelong foundations these early experiences provide.

I am proud to work alongside a dedicated and long-standing team of educators, many of whom have worked in early childhood education for many years. Our team reflects the diversity of the local community, with a strong range of languages and cultural backgrounds represented, which enriches our learning environment.

Supporting families begins from the very first tour. I take the time to understand each family’s needs and what they are looking for in early childhood education and care, provide guidance on how the Child Care Subsidy works, and explain what their child’s learning journey will look like. Families are encouraged to participate in settling-in sessions before their child’s start date to support a positive and confident transition into care. We continue to build open, respectful relationships with families through regular face-to-face conversations and our family communication app, working in partnership to support each child and family.

I look forward to welcoming your family to Pelican Newbury Boulevard Early Education Centre in Craigieburn.

Dear Mawa, Thank you so much for sharing such a heartwarming review! It is a privilege to care for your family across these two different developmental stages. Our teams in the kinder room and nursery work hard to ensure every child feels safe, loved, and supported, and it’s so rewarding to know that this is reflected in the care your children receive. We also understand that transitioning a little one into care at 9 months can be a big step for any parent. We’re so glad we could provide you with peace of mind, especially regarding his eczema care. I will be sure to pass your kind words along to both Sarahs, Chelsey, and Deepika. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and your wonderful review inspires our team to keep up the great work every day. Kind regards, The Pelican Childcare Team

Unfortunately my daughter often came home unsettled, with dirty clothes and ongoing nappy rash despite providing cream. Communication between educators was poor and we didn’t feel supported. We saw a major improvement as soon as we changed centres.

Response from the owner 04 Feb 2026

Hi Berna, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience at our centre did not meet your expectations and that you felt unsupported during your time with us. Children’s comfort, wellbeing, and hygiene are very important to us, and we take concerns of this nature seriously. We are continually reviewing our practices and communication processes to ensure families feel supported and confident in the care their child receives. Thank you for your feedback. We wish you and your family all the best moving forward. Kind regards, The Pelican Childcare Team
