- Holistic educational program with immersive language learning, Little Scientists program and education for sustainable development
- Inspiring play spaces with covered outdoor areas and rooftop playground
- Regular excursions for all age groups to the local community and beyond
Froebel St Leonards is a not-for-profit early learning centre and preschool, located just opposite the new Crows Nest Metro Station. Our centre caters for 99 children aged 6 months to 5 years of age and stretches over 3 levels with a huge rooftop playground for all our children to enjoy.
Our educational program focusses on:
- inquiry-based learning with our Little Scientists program. This program will ignite your child's natural curiosity and encourage them to explore the world surrounding them. Part of our STEM learning program is implemented during excursions for all our age-groups to the local surrounds and beyond – we are so lucky to have beautiful parks nearby.
- immersive language learning program with German as a second community language. Being exposed to more languages will be a boost to your child's cognitive development. A number of our educators are German speakers and speak in German to all children throughout the day. We also celebrate traditions from German-speaking countries such as our annual lantern walk, alongside Australian events and traditions from our diverse community.
- holistic approach to sustainability that extends across environmental, community, and personal domains. We believe that nurturing environmentally conscious practices, fostering a strong sense of community, and supporting individual well-being are all interconnected and essential for long-term impact. Through daily routines, intentional teaching, and meaningful projects, children are empowered to care for their environment, contribute to their communities, and develop lifelong skills to support their own health and wellbeing.
If your child is between 6 months and 2.5 years please join us for one of our FREE Froebel Science Explorer play sessions! All details available here: https://events.humanitix.com/froebel-science-explorers-a-stem-playgroup-2025

Our educational program focusses on inquiry-based learning with our Little Scientists program igniting children's natural curiosity and encouraging them to explore the world surrounding them, thereby fostering their independence and self-esteem. Part of our STEM learning program is implemented during excursions for all our age-groups to the local surrounds and beyond. We are so lucky to have beautiful parks nearby.
A number of our educators are German speakers and implement our immersive language learning program with German as a second community language. They speak with the children in German throughout the day, alongside their English-speaking colleagues, allowing children to pick up the new language very naturally. Supported is our immersive language learning program by German books, songs, games, routines and we also celebrate German traditions such as our annual lantern walk, alongside Australian events and traditions from our diverse team of educators.
We also focus on sustainability at our service, implemented through practices such as providing wet bags and eco-friendly nappies. Education for Sustainable Development is a part of our teaching, with projects such as our Recycling Tree or participating in Clean-up Day.
Centre philosophy
Centre philosophy
Our Centre stretches over 3 levels with contemporary and inviting spaces for our children to play and learn. We strongly believe that quality design largely contributes to better learning outcomes. FROEBEL’s philosophy is closely related to the Reggio Emilia pedagogy which sees the physical environment as the child’s ‘third teacher’. Our timber play pods are the highlight for our Toddler and Preschool rooms. Each level has its own covered outdoor space protected from the elements and age-appropriate equipment provides opportunites for safe risk-taking and to support children's development.
Our parent lounge on level 3 offers a discrete breastfeeding corner, some coffee and tea making facifilites and a meeting table for our families to use during their child's orientation and for our regular parent-teacher meetings. Our rooftop playground has been designed for all age-groups and we frequently take smaller groups from different rooms to our rooftop to allow for mixed age-group mingling.
Froebel St Leonards has its own car park in the building which makes drop off and pick up easy and convenient for our families. Drop off and pick up parking is free of charge.
We provide healthy and nutritious morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Our centre chef prepares all meals freshly and daily on site in our semi-open which invites children to participate in cooking and baking experiences. We can certainly cater for all of your child's dietary requirements.
Meet the team
Meet the team
Our educator-to-children ratios are:
• 1:4 for the Nursery
• 1:5 for the Toddlers
• 1:10 for the Preschool
All our educators share their passion and love for their profession and take the responsibility for your children very seriously. We are proud to have qualified and experienced Early Childhood Teachers (Bachelor in Early Childhood Education and Care) and a large number of Early Childhood Educators (Certificate III and Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care) on board.
At FROEBEL we celebrate all cultural and language backgrounds, and this is reflected in our community and team. Whilst our centre and team language is English and we promote English and German as part of our immersive early learning program various other languages are spoken by members of our team. Our educators will also incorporate experiences such as stories, songs, celebrations etc. from their own cultures into our program to share them with our children.
About the curriculum
About the curriculum
Children’s well-being and happiness are the first priority for our team when welcoming new children to the centre and when assisting the family to settle into the centre environment.
To give your child enough time to get familiar with our educators and the environment and for our team to get to know your child, his/her interests and needs we ask all our families to visit our centre three to six times in the fortnight leading up to the start of the enrolment. This two-week Orientation phase is free of charge if resulting in a formal enrolment and gives you the opportunity to learn about our routines and ask any question you may have.
During orientation our team will support your child in becoming part of the group. While you will be in your child’s room for the first visit we will ask you to leave your child in the room for a certain period of time (as agreed with our team) during the following visits, and you will be very welcome to make yourself comfortable in our parent lounge for these sessions.

We loved the beautiful nursery team, but we had significant difficulties with the toddler team at FROEBEL. The communication was very poor, and our daughter frequently came home with nappy rashes. There were no efforts made to help her settle during drop-off, and we found the overall experience in the toddler room to be neglectful. It seemed that the staff did not genuinely enjoy their work environment. Lastly, there simply aren’t enough German-speaking staff members to even call this daycare bilingual. Read more
