Family and Children's Services McNicoll Street is a boutique early years service offering a homelike environment to a maximum of 15 children.
The children are involved in all the decision making for the activities of each day. The educators strongly believe that children's ideas should be followed up and facilitated so that children are in charge of their learning, facilitated by educators. Educators implement intentional teaching into those activities.
Grouping is modelled on family environment where children strongly advocate for their right to make decisions. Educators provide resources and encourage informed decision making to build nurturing reciprocal relationships across the range of age. Educator interactions are nurturing, responsive to needs, encouraging children through engaging in lots of conversational input and supporting their actions.
Routines are flexible; every child is catered for in regards to their sleep, hygiene, hugs and cuddles.
Educators…
…advocate strongly for natural play spaces, resource natural materials, utilise natural lighting, take a community approach to excursions and visits, talk a lot about the country we live on, take an environmental approach to reusing, replanting and animal care,
…approach relationships mindful of each child’s needs, accept and acknowledge children’s needs for specific adult attachments such as a need for a primary carer.
…do a lot of creative work, respect celebrations and culture.
…research and investigate using modern and contemporary approaches.
…welcome families. Part of our belief is providing a service for children means connecting with families and carers through conversation, communication and gathering of information.
Providing the best care we can for children and their family is important us. We appreciate family comment and feedback.
