About Nido Early School Somerton Park

  • Children regularly visit the local aged‑care centre, where they engage in shared activities with residents.
  • We collaborate with Glenelg Primary School, welcoming their school choir to perform for our children and build familiarity with the broader school community.
  • To support children’s understanding of safety and wellbeing, we welcome visits from community emergency services.
  • Dental professionals also visit the service to promote oral health, supporting children’s wellbeing.

At Nido Somerton Park Early School, we provide exceptional education and care for children from six weeks to school age. Our approach focuses on creating warm, nurturing environments where children feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn. Guided by the Reggio Emilia philosophy, we design programs that encourage creativity, cultural understanding, and confidence through hands‑on experiences.

Safety is central to everything we do. We follow national child‑safe standards, maintain clear supervision, and provide ongoing training for our educators to ensure children feel secure and cared for.

Our programs include intergenerational experiences, safety education, wellbeing initiatives and sustainability learning that enrich learning and foster a strong sense of belonging.

Our environments are thoughtfully designed to spark imagination and exploration. Indoors, children enjoy art ateliers, shared spaces for learning, and quiet corners for rest and storytelling. Outdoors, they explore climbing areas, water play, Nido cars, and mature gardens that encourage movement and connection with nature.

Community is at the heart of Nido Somerton Park. Through strong partnerships with schools, aged‑care providers, libraries, local businesses, and emergency services, children develop a sense of belonging and confidence.

At Nido, every day is an opportunity to nurture confident, capable learners through safe, inspiring environments and meaningful experiences. We turn everyday moments into lasting learning that shapes each child’s future.

Safety

Safety

Safety matters every day.
Every day, safety comes first at Nido. Across all our early schools, we work tirelessly to uphold the highest standards in safety. This commitment underpins every decision we make and every interaction we have with children and families.

We have embedded the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations across all our practices to ensure safe behaviours, environments, and accountability are part of everything we do.

Strong supervision and ongoing training
All Educators participate in an 8-week active supervision program, along with regular training and safety alerts. This ensures teams are vigilant, responsive, and prepared for every situation.

Safe design, technology and electronic devices
Our early school layouts are designed for maximum visibility and supervision. CCTV is installed externally at most of our early schools to enhance security. For the protection of all children, the use of personal devices to take photos or videos of children is prohibited for all Nido team members, students, volunteers, and visitors.

Rigorous recruitment and compliance
Our recruitment process includes enhanced screening, comprehensive reference checks, and clear expectations around child safety. Working with Children Checks are strictly managed and continuously monitored.

Professional learning and guidance
Educators receive regular training through leading Registered Training Organisations. Policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current legislation and best practice, ensuring everyone understands the behaviours and standards expected.

Comprehensive health and safety
We maintain secure single-point entry systems, and our staff are trained in first aid, asthma, anaphylaxis care, and food safety. We follow strict medication management protocols, a Cancer Council-accredited Sun Smart policy, and promote hygiene through engaging activities. Our schools take allergies seriously, including nut awareness, to help keep every child safe and included at mealtimes. Any incidents are documented and promptly communicated with families.

Through empathy, kindness, and professionalism, we foster a nurturing culture built on consistent routines, shared responsibility, and a shared commitment to high‑quality education and care.

Parent communication and involvement

Parent communication and involvement

We value strong partnerships with families and actively involve parents in their child’s learning journey. From enrolment, we collaborate with families to understand routines, interests, and goals, tailoring programs to meet individual needs.

Communication is open and transparent, with regular updates, photos, and videos shared through our 'StoryPark’ App. Families are encouraged to participate in events and experiences, ensuring they feel connected to their child’s learning every day.

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

Our curriculum is inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy and aligned with the EYLF to support holistic development. It is co‑designed with families and experts to balance literacy, numeracy, creativity, health, and confidence.

We have had such a wonderful experience at NIDO. From Classroom 2 through to Classroom 4, our daughter has learned and grown so much. The patience, knowledge and genuine compassion shown by the educators has been incredible, and it’s clear how much care and thought goes into supporting each child as an individual. A special shout-out to the educators Simmi, Sarah, Ella, Thushan and Alex for the beautiful relationships they have built with our daughter and with our family. Knowing she was so well supported, understood and cared for has meant the world to us. We are so grateful for everything you do.

We couldn’t be happier sending our son to Nido Sommerton Park. He was warmly welcomed by all the educators and is always so happy when we pick him up. A big shout out to Alex, Ines and Elyse who always take such good care of our little one. There’s are so many others as well because the centre truly runs as a team. We loves all the updates on Storypark and how we can follow his day on the app!
