About the curriculum
About the curriculum
At Great Beginnings, the rooms are divided according to the ages of the children. Each area is designed to provide the best possible early learning experience for each child.
A combination of indoor and outdoor activities are planned for the children. The routines arranged by the educators allow for individual learning, small group learning, and large group learning.
Nursery rooms:
Educators provide a nurturing environment where babies feel safe to explore and discover. Activities included tummy time, messy play and other sensory activities. Language-rich environments through play-based experiences such as music, singing and rhymes are included in daily activities for children.
Toddler rooms:
Educators encourage the children to learn through play to enhance sensory-motor development. This will take the form of music, dance, games and reading. Group play is designed to develop confidence and social skills. Books and language games are used to develop communication, literacy, and numeracy.
Kindergarten rooms:
A school readiness program focused on numeracy and literacy will help children prepare for the next step in their education. Educators encourage group play to develop conversations, confidence, and social skills. The children learn through interest-based activities to promote development, these include music, dance, games, reading and lots of outdoor fun. Risky play and extracurricular activities are encouraged in a safe space to build up resilience and independence.
Health and Nutrition
Health and Nutrition
The centre believes they can help to give children their best start in life by providing healthy, nutritious meals daily. Food is used to teach the children about the benefits of healthy eating. All of the seasonal meals and snacks are provided for the children by the centre’s in-house chef, with all meals approved by government nutrition programs. The centre’s focus is on offering the children simple, nutrient-rich, unprocessed, and seasonal whole foods - designed to tempt even fussy eaters.
Children who attend a full day at the centre will be offered at least 50 per cent of their recommended daily dietary intake. Children are taught about the benefits of growing food by helping with the centre’s own vegetable garden.

As a first-time mum, I completely understand the anxiety that comes with choosing the right childcare. After exploring several options, I found Children First at Salisbury Downs, and I couldn't be happier with my decision! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and friendliness from the staff, which immediately put my nerves at ease. The entire team at Children First has been incredibly supportive and understanding throughout this transition for both my daughter and I. They have made the adjustment process smooth and enjoyable, and I truly feel confident knowing that my little one is in such capable hands. The educators are not only attentive to her needs but also genuinely care about her well-being and development. I’ve seen my daughter thrive in this nurturing environment. She has formed wonderful relationships with her educators, and it’s heartwarming to see her so happy and engaged. Our drop-off routine has transformed from a stressful experience to a joyful one, and I can’t express how much that means to me as a parent. If you’re considering childcare options, I wholeheartedly recommend Children First at Salisbury Downs. It’s a fantastic place where children are safe, loved, and encouraged to grow. You won’t regret choosing this centre for your child! Read more

I had looked around and then came to Child First at Salisbury downs. The place is amazing and so are the staff. They have been nothing but friendly and welcoming. Even with little incidents (bump on the head) that have happened the communication and care has been great. Thanks for being so wonderful team. Read more

Unfortunately, my family had a distressing experience that left them feeling traumatized and reluctant to trust the childcare system. While the staff initially seemed well-meaning, it was troubling to know that they made assumptions about situations based on ethnic background, despite priding themselves on being diverse. There were significant issues with communication and support that affected the overall environment. I believe it's important for childcare providers to create a nurturing and safe space for children and families. It's evident that this center has failed to exercise respect for families (Quality Area 6 of the National Quality Standard), which emphasizes the importance of valuing and respecting families and ensuring their rights and perspectives are acknowledged and supported. As a result, this has left my sister-in-law and her child feeling unsupported and undervalued. Open communication and respect for families are crucial in childcare settings, yet this center did not prioritize these aspects. I hope they can improve their practices to ensure that all families feel heard and respected in the future. Read more

After my child got hurt in their care, they lied to me that they would call me to talk over the issue but they never bothered!! The director lied to my face that she would call me but she never did! I just wanted answers, I wanted to know what actually happened to my child but they couldn’t care less! 2 weeks after they lied that they would call but didn’t I sent them an email to cancel my daughter’s care! The care was suspended until further notice e.g. calling me but since they didn’t call I told them to cancel the care! I got an email that it was cancelled. My daughter has been staying home because I have PTSD from this whole experience! And I don’t even know I would ever trust another child care centre ever again! They turned our family live upside down but couldn’t be bothered to reach out!! After weeks of cancellation, they have now put my account in negative! Charging me Over $600!! For what?!! Do not take your child to this place! They don’t care about the safety of your child and they don’t value relationships!!! They hurt my child and put me through hell for it! Stay away from them for the safety of your children and your sanity!! Read more

When I took my daughter from another Childcare centre to Children First Salisbury Downs I was anxious about how she was going to... When I took my daughter from another Childcare centre to Children First Salisbury Downs I was anxious about how she was going to settle in. Choosing a child care for your child is never an easy task and the anxiety increases when you have had a bad experience with another centre. With all this in mind, I arranged visit and I was pleasantly surprised by how easily my daughter left my side, she got to playing and riding the bike straight away. I arranged another visit and it was the same so I decided to enroll in, my conversation with Britt (assistant director at the time but currently director) made the decision easier. She made me feel understood and reassured about leaving my daughter in their care. My daughter loves going to childcare, she has built great connections with her educators and peers. However the event that unfolded this week made me regret my decision to take my daughter to this childcare. The emotional trauma my family and I experienced this week as a result of actions from staff is appalling. I was lied to about the safety and wellbeing of my child, I was told one thing and another thing was done behind my back! There was zero transparency around the health and well-being of my child, I trusted these people and they turn around and hide Information regarding the safety of my child. Not only will I never trust them again, I am left to deal with the PTSD of the whole experience. I haven’t slept for days thanks to the assistant director for making my child’s safety a hide and seek game! I thought my child and I had found our forever home in terms of child care. Instead I am left hurt, disappointed and defeated partly because I will likely never know the truth of what actually happened to my child due to the lack of transparency! I am never the one to leave reviews because in most cases I can’t be bothered! I made this review because children deserve to be safe, and parents deserve to know every little detail and concerns about the safety, health and wellbeing of their child. I don’t want what happened to me to happen to another family. I hope it was just my lack because I wouldn’t wish what I went through in the hands of Children First Salisbury Downs on my worse enemy! As a first time mum, I am always anxious about all things concerning my child, I am overprotective; I didn’t need the extra stress! Read more

My almost 3 year old daughter has been attending this centre since March 2024 and we have had nothing but a positive experience with Children’s First Salisbury Downs. Their entire team have always been so welcoming, supportive and understanding and have made the adjustment process for both my daughter and I an easy one. I feel confident in knowing my daughter is in great hands with her educators where her needs are always met and where I know she is safe and well looked after. She has built great relationships with her educators and has settled in to her new childcare routine seamlessly, drop offs are now a much happier experience for both of us. I couldn’t recommend this centre more if you’re considering sending your child here. Read more
