About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber

Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years

Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and by experimenting. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play, water play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing!

Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years

Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games and reading experiences.

On any given day the Toddler children can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.

Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn taking, developing self confidence and emotional self regulation. Our team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.

Preschool Space: 3 – 6 years

Preschool is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program encourages active engagement in learning and supports a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.

The oral language supports literacy learning. A child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Preschool children's development by engaging in rich discussions, introducing new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations, as well as singing, playing games, and reading with the children daily.

Throughout the Preschool year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.

Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, is supported through group learning environments. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Lastly, ensuring that all children are ready for the ‘big school’ by preparing them for all that ‘big school’ has to offer.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

Our centre chef prepares and cooks healthy and nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating.

Our centre offers children nutrient-rich, unprocessed, and seasonal whole foods – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Meet the team

Meet the team

Hi my name is Catherine, and I am the Centre Manager here at St Helens Park World of Learning. I started my early learning career in 2013 and have been working at St Helens Park World of Learning ever since. I hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care.

I have always loved spending time with children. Watching them grow and develop into unique individuals has always been a passion of mine. My approach is child-led – always letting children make the most of their play-based experiences.

Early childhood education aims to support children in developing knowledge and skills they will utilise for the rest of their lives. Our educators endeavour to empower our children to become independent and confident members of their community. As we strongly believe children learn these skills through play, we encourage children to explore roles and share experiences utilising natural and manmade materials within homelike, nurturing, and safe environments.

All of my team have been working in the sector for a number of years. Some have been at our centre as trainees and stayed after finishing their traineeship. They are all incredibly passionate about providing children with the best learning experiences.

We want our families to feel that when they drop their child off at our centre, they are leaving their child with family members. We are all part of the St Helens Park family. Our centre is their second home. I am always available to listen to my families, give advice, and support them wherever I can.

We have been part of this beautiful daycare family for the past five years, with all three of my children attending since babies, and I honestly couldn’t recommend them enough! ❤️

Over the years, the educators have become so much more than just carers to our family. They have played such an important role in my children’s growth, learning, confidence and development. I’m so grateful for all the love, patience, kindness and support the team has shown all three of my children over the years. It’s never easy leaving your babies in someone else’s care, but the team has made that journey so much easier for our family.

Highly recommend to any family looking for a caring, loving and supportive daycare for their little ones! - Thank you Cathy & Team from the Taufa Family.

My daughter has been attending St Helens Park WOL since she was 9 months old, she is now 4 and I could not be happier. She is always excited to go to school, loves her teachers, has made so many friends and is absolutely thriving. Her educators, currently in the Butterfly room, are always very attentive to anything extra that she may need on any given day. All the staff go above and beyond to any requests and are super supportive.
I could not recommend this centre more highly.
Thank you to all the staff for the support over these few years. ☺️

Our little one has attended the centre since she was 8 months old. We've had the best possible experience at this centre and our little one has thrived in their care. She genuinely enjoys going so much that she chants about it all the way there! The educators are amazing and have created such a good bond with our little one which has made her feel safe, welcome and free to be her true curious self. They've been fantastic to work with for toilet training, sleep transitions and developmental milestones, on top of their already busy day-to-day workings. Nothing is ever an issue, staff are always calm and the environment overall is so welcoming yet fun and engaging for the kids. The centre is safe, transparent and clean, and most of the educators have been there for years - which speaks volumes about the Centre Manager (who is fantastic).
