We moved our child to Story House Epping after moving to the suburb. Prior to this, he attended another childcare centre where he was very happy and did not cry during drop-offs.<br><br>At Story House Epping, our child was well cared for and enjoyed the playtime. We appreciate the educators who looked after him. However, from the third week after joining, we started noticing several concerns.<br><br>One noticeable difference was at drop-off. Unlike his previous centre, where he did not cry, he was crying almost every day when we dropped him off at Story House Epping. We understand that children can take time to adjust to a new environment, but the difference was significant for us.<br><br>We also felt that the learning resources and materials were limited compared with his previous centre. Based on the photos and updates we received, we felt there was less variety in educational activities and resources, and we were concerned that our child's developmental progress was not continuing at the same level as before.<br><br>Communication was another concern. When we picked him up after 5:30 pm, we generally did not receive a face-to-face update about how his day went. We also found it difficult to speak with management during drop-offs and pick-ups.<br><br>Another significant concern was the lack of clear information about kindergarten funding. Although our child attended four days a week and both centres had the same daily rate, we discovered that we were paying more out of pocket at Story House Epping due to the way the kinder funding was applied. We only discovered this after comparing our situation with our previous centre and seeking advice from them.<br><br>We were disappointed when Story House Epping's management described the difference as "only a few dollars." For us, the issue was not simply the amount; it was the lack of clear and accurate information about kinder funding and eligibility.<br><br>We were also concerned that, when we sought clarification, Story House Epping's management could not clearly explain whether the service was operating as a long day care kindergarten program or as a sessional kindergarten program. We believe families should be provided with clear information about the type of kindergarten program being offered, how it operates, and how this relates to government funding and eligibility.<br><br>We also had to seek advice from our previous centre regarding the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) and the final booked sessions when ending an enrolment. We were not clearly informed that, in general, a child needs to physically attend their final booked session for CCS to remain payable, subject to applicable exceptions. Our previous centre specifically warned us about this, and we believe this is important information that should be clearly communicated to families.<br><br>Another point families should be aware of is the structure of the kindergarten program. The kindergarten program is divided into four school terms, and the funded kindergarten program does not operate during the designated school holiday breaks. We recommend that families ask what educational and curriculum-based activities continue during these periods and how the program operates throughout the year.<br><br>Overall, our child was cared for well, and we appreciate the educators. However, our concerns about the drop-off experience, learning resources, curriculum, communication, management accessibility, kinder funding and CCS information ultimately led us to reconsider the centre.<br><br>For families considering Story House Epping, we recommend doing your own research and asking detailed questions about the kindergarten program, curriculum, learning resources, government funding and eligibility, CCS, final attendance requirements, and what happens during kindergarten term breaks before enrolling.

Story House Early Learning Epping is a wonderful place for children. The educators genuinely care about the children’s safety, wellbeing and learning. The children are provided with nutritious meals and engaging experiences that support their development and confidence. It is a welcoming and caring environment where children feel safe, happy and supported.
