Safety

Safety

Safety matters every day.
Every day, safety comes first at Nido. Across all our early schools, we work tirelessly to uphold the highest standards in safety. This commitment underpins every decision we make and every interaction we have with children and families.

We have embedded the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations across all our practices to ensure safe behaviours, environments, and accountability are part of everything we do.

Strong supervision and ongoing training
All Educators participate in an 8-week active supervision program, along with regular training and safety alerts. This ensures teams are vigilant, responsive, and prepared for every situation.

Safe design, technology and electronic devices
Our early school layouts are designed for maximum visibility and supervision. CCTV is installed externally at most of our early schools to enhance security. For the protection of all children, the use of personal devices to take photos or videos of children is prohibited for all Nido team members, students, volunteers, and visitors.

Rigorous recruitment and compliance
Our recruitment process includes enhanced screening, comprehensive reference checks, and clear expectations around child safety. Working with Children Checks are strictly managed and continuously monitored.

Professional learning and guidance
Educators receive regular training through leading Registered Training Organisations. Policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current legislation and best practice, ensuring everyone understands the behaviours and standards expected.

Comprehensive health and safety
We maintain secure single-point entry systems, and our staff are trained in first aid, asthma, anaphylaxis care, and food safety. We follow strict medication management protocols, a Cancer Council-accredited Sun Smart policy, and promote hygiene through engaging activities. Our schools take allergies seriously, including nut awareness, to help keep every child safe and included at mealtimes. Any incidents are documented and promptly communicated with families.

Parent communication and involvement

Parent communication and involvement

Nido Early School understands that no one knows a child like their family. The service actively engages with parents and family members to ensure children have the very best care.

The team works with family members at enrolment and also regularly seeks updates on children’s schedules and current interests. This helps them to develop tailored programs that meet individual educational, physical, cultural and emotional needs.

Parents are welcome to chat with staff at drop off and pick up, and to contact the team at any stage via phone, email or the service’s ‘Playground’ App. The service regularly sends updates on children’s progress, and photos and videos of children during play and learning activities.

With an ‘open door policy’, parents are welcome to join in activities and events, and to share breakfast with children at the popular breaky bar.

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

The curriculum at Nido Early School is inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach and aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework. Designed to support the children in the early years and as they prepare for the transition to school, the curriculum is play-based and engaging.

The curriculum is delivered in three stages:

Nursery (6 weeks to 18 months)

In the nursery, the children are nurtured as they develop early connections with their educators. They read stories, play and explore the world around them.

The children start to develop their sense of identity and understand that they are part of a broader community. They start to explore their feelings and emotions and also try new things. Developing early communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal is also a big focus for the children in this age group.

Toddlers (18 months to 3 years)

The educators encourage the toddlers to develop their independence and autonomy. They have opportunities to build their social skills and early friendships while also learning to regulate their emotions.

As the children take safe risks in their learning, the educators also encourage their problem solving skills. Self-expression and communication are also important.

Kindergarten (3 years to school)

The Kindergarten curriculum helps to prepare the children for the big transition to big school. The children have a strong sense of self and understand their role in the community. They participate in peer activities and understand their own emotions.

They are always questioning how things work and practising their verbal and listening skills as strong communicators.

My first child Sophia started at Nido Duncraig just over a year ago now when we first moved to the area. The reception I received has always been warm and approachable and my daughter has transitioned through rooms and adapted well with different environments which has always been well supported by the educators in each room. She has always found drop offs difficult but the educators take the time to support her with distractions or cuddles, whatever she needs to make the drop offs go as smoothly as can be. She has made some lovely friends that she constantly talks about in her home life. The team are good at updating the app with their daily routine and assisted with toilet training when that time came. The food is always varied and there is no food pressure of how much and what specifically to eat. They give weekly curriculum updates and how that links with the child’s educational needs and any queries sent have been answered swiftly. My son has recently joined the centre in the past few weeks in the baby room. The orientation was thorough and time was taken to understand his routine. They have called me through the day to check in and run things by me when they want me to be aware of anything. Overall I feel it has been a great choice of day care for us as a family and I would recommend to anyone who is considering child care in the area.

We have been attending Nido Duncraig since the start of 2026 and couldn't be happier with our 18 month old's care. His transition into care was so well supported, with educators going above and beyond to help him get settled. The team is very capable and willing to be flexible around your child's individual needs. We love that we can follow along and have updates about naps, meals and nappies on their app. The photo updates on the app are amazing too. Staff have been consistent with very little movement since we started. Amy taking the reins in recent years has obviously made this a leading daycare in Perth. Huge thanks to Amy and Eleanor for looking after us and our boy, and of course thank you to the legends that look after him in the rooms. Charlie and Hayley and the rest of the team have been able to keep his routines, teach him so many new things and create the nurturing environment that every parent dreams of. He waves us off in the mornings!!

Response from the owner 05 May 2026

Hi Dianna, thank you for sharing your heartfelt experience! We are privileged to be part of your child's journey and are grateful for your kind words about our team and environment. It's wonderful to hear about the positive transition and updates you've enjoyed.
