About Cherry Blossom Early Learning Centre

EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS!

Cherry Blossom Early Learning Centre is a 44‑place early childhood service offering high‑quality education and care for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years. As an experienced, privately owned, family‑operated centre, we are committed to delivering an exceeding standard of practice, with children, families, and our dedicated educators at the heart of everything we do.

Our team brings extensive expertise in early childhood education, supported by an award‑finalist management group. This depth of experience is reflected in our programs, our relationships with families, and our continuous commitment to improvement.

Our centre environment features large, open natural play spaces, including a nature corner where children can engage with our resident guinea pig, Peanut, and our floppy‑eared bunny, Daisy. These spaces are designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a strong connection to the natural world.

Cherry Blossom ELC is conveniently located on Grose Street, just behind Leura Mall, with parking available on Lambert Place. We operate 51 weeks per year, from 7:00am to 6:00pm, providing flexibility for families.

Since the change of ownership in July 2019, the centre has undergone significant enhancements, with ongoing upgrades continuing to strengthen the quality of our learning environment. In late 2025, we welcomed new management and a team of devoted, enthusiastic educators who are working diligently as we prepare for our Assessment and Rating in 2026. We are currenly particiapting in a ACECQA Quality Support Program as part of our quality imporvement.

About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

Our curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and enriched by Sociocultural Theory and Reggio Emilia–inspired practice, positioning the environment as the “third teacher” and framing learning as a collaborative, interactive, and exploratory process. Educators provide intentional, temporary scaffolding through skilled questioning and responsive support, ensuring each child is empowered to construct knowledge through meaningful play and inquiry.

Play is regarded as fundamental to children’s learning, reflecting the belief that “play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood” (Fred Rogers, 1995). This philosophy underpins every aspect of the program and reinforces the value of child‑led exploration.

Cherry Blossom ELC is affiliated with Little Scientists Australia and delivers a STEM‑focused project‑based learning program, facilitated by a Little Scientists–trained Early Childhood Teacher. This approach nurtures curiosity, problem‑solving, and scientific thinking through hands‑on investigation.

The curriculum also emphasises learning through natural environments, embedding a love of nature, sustainable practices, and Indigenous perspectives. The Yarnkaporta 8 Ways of Learning framework is woven throughout the educational program, supporting culturally responsive, holistic, and interconnected learning experiences.

Kindergarten/Preschool Programs

Kindergarten/Preschool Programs

The school readiness program is delivered by qualified, highly experienced educators and overseen by an Early Childhood Teacher and Educational Leader with 18 years of experience in the early childhood sector. This depth of expertise ensures children receive a purposeful, developmentally informed transition-to-school experience.

The program is strengthened through close collaboration with local Start Strong kindergarten programs, including planned visits both from and to nearby primary schools—most notably Leura Public School—as part of a structured orientation process. These partnerships help children build familiarity with school environments, routines, and expectations.

Learning experiences place a strong emphasis on early literacy and numeracy, delivered through a rich variety of modalities such as board games, creative arts, drama, dance, and movement-based activities. This multimodal approach supports different learning styles and ensures children develop foundational skills in engaging, meaningful ways.

Centre philosophy

Centre philosophy

Our centre philosophy is grounded in four core pillars: Relationships, Environment, Community, and Education. These components collectively guide our practices, decision‑making, and the learning experiences we create for children.

Relationships
At Cherry Blossom ELC, reciprocal and supportive relationships between educators, children, families, and the wider community form the foundation of our practice. We prioritise trust, open communication, and genuine partnership, recognising that strong relationships are essential to children’s sense of belonging, wellbeing, and learning.

Environment and Sustainability
We are committed to fostering an environmentally responsible culture within our centre. This includes actively reducing the use of plastics, embedding sustainable practices into daily routines, and nurturing children’s understanding of their role as custodians of the natural world. Our goal is to model and promote behaviours that contribute to a more sustainable future.

Community
We deeply value the cultural diversity within our community and strive to ensure it is meaningfully reflected throughout our environment and curriculum. By celebrating diverse perspectives, traditions, and identities, we create an inclusive learning space where every child and family feels respected, represented, and connected.

Education

Cherry Blossom ELC upholds the belief that play is the cornerstone of early childhood education, providing the essential foundation for children to grow into capable, confident, and successful lifelong learners. Through play, children develop critical thinking, social competence, creativity, resilience, and a deep sense of agency—skills that underpin all future learning and wellbeing.

Safety

Safety

Safety is paramount at Cherry Blossom ELC, and our educators are committed to ensuring every child feels safe, secure, and supported through vigilant supervision, thorough risk assessments, up‑to‑date child protection training, and an ongoing commitment to continuous quality improvement and professional development. At the same time, we recognise the importance of nurturing each child’s emerging autonomy, resilience, and agency, supporting them to develop a confident sense of self.

Our outdoor environment is intentionally designed to be natural and minimally padded, encouraging exploration, age‑appropriate risk‑taking, and opportunities for children to develop strategies that support their own physical health, personal safety, and overall wellbeing. This approach empowers children to understand their capabilities and make informed decisions in real‑world contexts.

We also provide rich learning experiences beyond the centre through regular excursions, allowing children to explore the local neighbourhood, build a sense of connection to their community, and strengthen their physical development and wellbeing through active engagement with the world around them.

Our two children have attended Cherry Blossom Early Childhood Centre and we’ve had such a great experience. Our oldest went there from age 2 to 6, and our younger child has been attending since turning 1. Even though they have very different personalities and interests, both of them have really thrived at Cherry Blossom. They’re always happy and settled when we pick them up, which says so much about the care they receive. The educators take the time to notice what each child is interested in and help them build on those interests in really thoughtful ways. The staff are friendly, approachable, and easy to talk to. Communication has always been clear, and we’re informed straight away about anything important. We feel really comfortable and confident having our children there and would happily recommend Cherry Blossom to other families.

Both of my boys love Cherry Blossom and are always happy to head off to daycare. They always tell me of the great day they have had in the afternoon and always seem like they have multiple fun and educational experiences through the day. All the teachers are wonderful and nurturing and loved by my kids. The natural play area and emphasis on outdoor play in all weather is something I really value and that my boys thoroughly enjoy. Cass and all the staff have done an awesome job transforming the centre in the last 18 months.

We’ve been sending our boy to Cherry Blossum for over 6 months now in the 0-2 room and he loves it. When we started sending him Cassandra- the newer owner - had already taken over and was busy making adjustments to all the indoor and outdoor spaces, centre staff etc. We've been so happy and impressed with all the changes and the way both new and old team members engage with our boy. The activities the kids do always look fun and engaging. The food is healthy and looks delicious, there are plenty of outdoor spaces for the kids to play in, and the indoor spaces have been well thought out with a range of interesting toys and books. We also love that we are updated throughout the day via the KidsXap App with all the fun activities our boy gets to do, the meals he has eaten, nappy changes and whether he has taken a nap or not. Cassandra always responds to our email queries quickly (even the silly ones) and totally gets what it is to be a busy parent. We were nervous about sending our boy to daycare but she helped us through the whole process and helped us feel comfortable. We’re really grateful to her and staff for the outstanding services they provide. Keep up the great work team 👍
