About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber

Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years

Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and through experimentation. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play including sensory play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing.

Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years

Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games, role playing and reading experiences.

On any given day the Toddlers can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.

Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn-taking, developing self-confidence and emotional self-regulation. Our skilled team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.

Preschool Space: 3 – 6 years

Preschool is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program has school readiness at its core, encouraging active engagement in learning and supporting a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.

The oral language supports literacy learning and a child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Preschool children's literacy development by engaging in rich discussions, reading, storytelling, dramatic play and experimentation all of which introduce new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations.

Throughout the Preschool year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.

Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, are supported through group learning experiences. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Our goal in the Preschool year is to prepare children and families for a smooth transition to primary school.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

Our centre chef prepares and cooks nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating across a wide variety of food.

Our centre offers seasonal whole food-based menus – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hi, my name is Serena, and I am the Centre Manager here at Great Beginnings Marsden Park. I believe it is a privilege to be part of children’s early learning journeys and am dedicated to supporting children to build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging.

I have been working in the early childhood sector since 2001, joining Great Beginnings Marsden Park in 2018. I bring over 25 years of experience supporting children, families, and educators across a range of early learning environments. I am passionate about providing high-quality, meaningful learning opportunities where children are recognised as capable and confident learners who have the right to be valued, heard, and supported to share their knowledge and ideas.

Throughout my career, I have learned that each child is unique, and when their individuality is celebrated and they are given the freedom to develop at their own pace, they thrive. This understanding guides my approach to creating inclusive, safe, and engaging environments that foster curiosity, a love of learning, and holistic development. I believe it is a privilege to be part of children’s early learning journeys and am dedicated to supporting children to build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging.

When speaking with families, I often explain that early learning centres complement the important learning that takes place at home by providing structured, play-based experiences led by qualified educators. Through these experiences, children develop essential social skills such as sharing, empathy, and cooperation, while also building independence, resilience, and early cognitive skills that support a smooth transition to school.

I feel fortunate to work alongside a passionate and long-standing team of educators who are committed to delivering high-quality education and care. Our diverse team brings a rich range of cultural knowledge and experiences, including Aboriginal educators who share valuable First Nations perspectives and learning opportunities with children. Building strong partnerships with families is central to my role, and I focus on developing trusting relationships where families feel involved, connected, and confident, knowing they can approach me at any time for support.

Great Beginnings Marsden Park is a wonderful childcare centre with staff who genuinely care for the kids. My children attend/have attended the centre, and love it there, with my eldest still happy to come to pick up her sister and say hello to her teachers. The preschool program is a lovely balance of preparation for big school as well as playtime and learning through play, while still providing the longer hours daycare which makes a big difference for working parents. I think the majority of the staff are still there from when my eldest started attending in 2019, which in my opinion says a lot about the culture and environment of the centre for the staff and therefore the kids. Happy staff means happy kids. The classroom teachers are always approachable for questions or updates, as are management, who are so friendly and helpful when figuring out casual days or help with signing in and out as well as the paperwork. I highly recommend GB Marsden Park for daycare and preschool for families.

We've recently moved centres to start at Great Beginnings Marsden Park. The staff there are fantastic and our little man LOVES going to "big school". In the Senior Kindy room, Miss Cherry and Miss Selesa are fantastic with our son and provide so many opportunities for him to learn and have fun. The activities encourage our son to engage and he is more attentive to the learning than he has been in his other centres!

Response from the owner 29 Mar 2026

Hi Cameron, We’re thrilled to receive your 5-star rating! It’s wonderful to hear that our staff are fantastic. Your kind words inspire us to continue providing exceptional care and education. Kind regards, The Great Beginnings Team
