About Sparrow Early Learning Grant Street

Welcome to Sparrow Early Learning Grant Street! We offer early education and care for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years.

Inspired by Reggio Emilia philosophy and guided by the Early Years Learning Framework, our educators provide a holistic, play-based curriculum with a strong emphasis on nature and outdoor learning experiences. We celebrate each child as unique and our dedicated educators focus programming on meeting the individual needs and interests of each child.

Our studios are spacious and are filled with natural light. Here, children have the opportunity to learn through play with stimulating resources and materials where they can explore, experiment, discover and solve problems in imaginative and playful ways.

We have wonderful, natural outdoor play spaces, including a water play area, a veggie patch, sand play areas and luscious grassed areas for children to explore, grow and play.

Our onsite Chef serves nutritious meals which are freshly prepared in-house with rotating menus which have been developed to ensure our children receive a well-balanced diet. We offer progressive mealtimes and cater for all dietary requirements.

Our curriculum incorporates incursions as well as excursions, creating opportunities to explore our local community. We offer ‘Happy Feet’ dance and movement program and ‘Little Big Sports’ who attend the service on a weekly basis.

Our team at Grant Street are passionate advocates for children. They are dedicated to providing a safe, joyful environment that nurtures relationships and each child’s holistic development as they move through their years at Sparrow.

We welcome you and your family to our service and invite you to join us for a play and an opportunity to explore Sparrow Early Learning Grant Street.

Meet Courtney - Service Manager Sparrow Early Learning Grant Street

Hello families,

My name is Courtney and I am your new Service Manager. I am truly excited to join this wonderful community and begin building strong, meaningful relationships with each of you and your children.

I have been working in the early education sector for 16 years and have held a variety of roles, from Educator through to Area Manager. Throughout my career, I have developed a deep understanding of what makes a service thrive, strong relationships, a supportive and empowered team, and a genuine partnership with families. I am incredibly passionate about creating nurturing, inclusive environments where every child feels safe, valued and inspired to learn, and where families feel heard, respected, and connected.

Beyond my professional role, I am a wife and a proud mum. I cherish every moment with my family. My journey as a parent has been profoundly shaped by my son’s premature birth, and that experience deepened my empathy and strengthened my commitment to supporting families in all seasons of life. I now volunteer with the charity that supported us throughout our hospital journey, as giving back to the community that once held us up is something very close to my heart.

Creativity, compassion, and meaningful connection sit at the Centre of everything I do. I am committed to fostering a positive culture for our team and a welcoming environment where every family feels part of something special.

I am very much looking forward to meeting you all, learning about your children, and working together to create a nurturing and inspiring year ahead.

Warmly,
Courtney

About the curriculum

About the curriculum

“The Sparrow Way combines proven international early learning methods to create a unique and purposefully contemporary practice designed for today’s society. Guided by the principles of Reggio Emilia childcare and underpinned by The Early Years Framework for Australia, we embrace children’s inherent abilities to learn and develop, creating an environment for them to find solutions through exploration, discovery and invention, marveling in everything around them. The Sparrow Way is our method of working with children based on these beliefs and principles.”

- The Sparrow Early Education Team

The Sparrow curriculum is thoughtfully planned by our educators and shaped by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Being guided by the EYLF and National Quality Standards (NQS) ensures we offer high quality learning programs that are responsive to children’s ideas, interests, strengths and abilities.

Programs are play-based, child-driven and inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach with a strong emphasis on nature and outdoor learning experiences.  Educators carefully design environments that stimulate curiosity and provide opportunities for hands-on learning experiences that are reflective of real life.

Play is viewed as a powerful tool for children to explore, discover and make meaning of the world around them. Activities are largely open-ended, providing a wide variety of natural resources and materials which stimulate imagination and foster creativity, problem-solving and meaningful interactions with friends and educators.

Children are encouraged to express themselves through various mediums, such as art, music and dramatic play, allowing them to develop a deep sense of autonomy, confidence and joy in their learning journey.

Parent communication and involvement

Parent communication and involvement

The Sparrow team values the role of families as children’s most important teachers and our educators foster positive and collaborative relationships with families. Parents are encouraged to contribute their ideas for programming, learning activities and the overall operation of the service.

Our inclusive open-door policy welcomes parents to visit our service, engage in discussions with educators and participate in children's learning. Our educators maintain open and continuous communication with families, ensuring a strong connection between the children's home learning environment and their educational experiences at the centre. During pick-up and drop-off times, educators are readily available to engage with families and gladly share insights into the children's progress, well-being and participation.

The use of the Storypark communication app provides daily updates, photos, and videos, fostering regular connections between educators and families. Parents also receive frequent communication through emails, newsletters, displays, notices, information evenings, special events, and Facebook.

Kindergarten/Preschool Programs

Kindergarten/Preschool Programs

  • Planned and delivered by qualified Early Childhood Teachers
  • Government Accredited
  • School Readiness focus
  • Transition to School program including school visits & transition reports

Sparrow Early Learning centres provide high quality kindergarten/preschool programs led by qualified Early Childhood Teachers. While the curriculum remains play-based, these programs follow a more structured approach to teaching and learning experiences to prepare children for transitioning into a primary school environment. There is a careful balance maintained between child-led and teacher-led learning activities.

Our Early Childhood Teachers cater to the individual needs of each child and in collaboration with parents, ensure that children are adequately equipped with the skills and experience required for a smooth transition to “big school”. Ongoing assessment of children’s progress and development is carefully documented and communicated with families and transition statements can be shared with future schools to facilitate a smooth transition to school.

Attending kindergarten/preschool at their familiar Sparrow Early Learning centre makes the transition from the long day care setting less intimidating and children can continue their early learning journey in a safe and familiar environment, surrounded by friends and familiar educators. It also means families can enjoy the flexibility of extended care hours and continued care during school holiday periods. All meals and snacks are provided, adding to the convenience for busy families.

We have only recently started at Sparrow Early Learning Grant Street, but already I am so impressed with how welcoming and caring all of the educators have been. My son settled in so quickly, has already made some lovely little friends, and comes home happy and excited to tell me about his day. The educators genuinely care about the children and have created such a warm, safe, and nurturing environment. The management team are also incredibly supportive and have wonderful communication, which has made the transition into care so much easier and reassuring for our family. As a parent, there is nothing better than knowing your child is happy and thriving. We are so grateful to have found such a wonderful early learning centre!

Grant street has been absolutely amazing for our family, my son has recently started and he has now built warm and meaningful relationships with his peers and educators, and has settled in so smoothly! I couldn’t be happier with the way he is going, the experiences he is involved in and the learning that has occurred. It has only been just over a month for him and I have already seen a huge improvement with his language and development. I am also a casual educator within the service and I can proudly say all educators are professional, respectful, and supportive to all children and families. Grant street provides a great sense of belonging and it honestly feels like a little family to us. 🩵
