I would like to respectfully advise mothers of immigrant and non-white children to be cautious when considering enrolling their child in this centre. During my visit, I unfortunately experienced what I perceived as discriminatory treatment something I had never encountered before in Australia. The receptionist offered very little information about the centre, seemed dismissive, and stated that they were full, even though the website showed available spots. At first, I thought I might be overreacting, but after didn't receive any message asking how was my experience like from every other centre I visited except this one my concerns were reinforced. I’m sharing my experience to help other parents make an informed decision when choosing a welcoming and inclusive environment for their children.

After looking at 5 different centres in the valley area I chose Goodstart. My son went to this centre from 6 months back in 2020 to nearly 5 years old. He made many friends, loved the teachers and thrived. They even did the hard job and toilet trained him haha! He’s now in prep and asks every now and then to go visit the centre. He has many good memories here so thank you Goodstart team!

I was really happy with the care and support my son received here. Educators and staff were friendly and helpful. Everyday they organised fun and interactive play and learning activities. They helped my son learn more about the world and supported him to interact and play with other children.

Our child attended goodstart nursery for a year and was very happy throughout. Goodstart educators were always very helpful and supportive when it came to our child’s development and behaviour. We are missing you!

This is a very late post but 7-8 years ago when my little one attended this care centre he was attacked viciously, allegedly by another child, with multiple bite marks on his body, bruises and significant bumps to his head. He was just two at the time and a very lovely little boy. Apparently they found him lying on the ground crying with a shovel next to him (he had clearly been hit with). Staff did not contact me at work to report that he had been attacked until hours later when the only decent carer at the centre arrived at work and was really upset by his injuries. His injuries included a bite mark to the face and a large bump and bruise across his forehead. There were scratch marks also. Head injuries require immediate notification to a parent and incident reporting, this is regulated. This should have been reported to higher authorities and camera recordings accessed to assess staff negligence (how could an attack such as this have occurred, was the perpetrating child safe to have in the environment and did they need assessment with other services such as an OT, where was the line of sight supervision etc.) and provide evidence as to why it wasn’t safe to have a mixed age group area with children as big as 5 in the same play space as 1-2 years olds. Hectic. Nothing sufficient was done to prevent or report and respond to this and it has stayed with me ever since. Nothing like that has ever happened to him or his brother again. He screamed and begged hysterically when we next went near the centre, in a way that was completely out of character for him, so he never went back. Clearly it was not a safe environment. I am writing this now because I should have made a complaint to regulators then and because the centre directors and staff need to ensure their services have changed significantly and this kind of thing can not happen again.

Highly recommend this centre. The last 6 months have been great. A great outdoor area, centre is clean and presented very well and staff are so welcoming. So friendly. A hidden part in the valley

I can’t thank Goodstart Fortitude Valley enough for building a happy and healthy girl into the community. My daughter has been there since she was 9 months old and now she is fully ready for school in a couple weeks. Highly recommended!

Hands down the best daycare centre/kindy in the city having sadly tried most. The GoodStart centres and their approach are the only centres in the area that I know of besides Little Locals that cater to special needs kids the proper way. I am beyond grateful to the educators and admin team at Goodstart for taking such good care of my angel. We have since moved and chosen another Goodstart centre in our new area for kindy. We recently enrolled our child at Goodstart and have had a really great experience so far! The lead educators in our room (Jesper and Sona) are really attentive and caring and always open to a chat about what happened that day and what developmental goals we are working on. One thing that stands out for us is that even the educators that look after other rooms know our names, say hello to our little one and are always ready with smiles and cuddles to make sure they feel cared for and welcome. This has made such a difference for drop offs and pickups and after an initial couple of rough weeks of separation anxiety our child is really starting to settle in well, thanks to the great educators at Goodstart. Another highlight is the big outdoor area in the centre of all the classrooms, where all the children are able to play and socialise together.

Unfortunately, our experience, and our son's (20 months), was not positive. We found the communication between most of the educators lacking. When we would pick up our son, there were many instances where no one could provide details about his day. After bringing this up, we noticed a slight improvement, but it was not enough to reassure us. Many of our requests as parents were ignored, as we constantly had to repeat ourselves several times, which in the end got extremely frustrating. We received five calls over five consecutive days about our son falling, which raised concerns about supervision and the frequency of these incidents. Additionally, the center was highly disorganised, with an outdated menu and cleanliness issues. It is a shame because there were a few staff members who really did try to make our son's time enjoyable. However, as a whole, we felt the center fell below the expected standard.
