About the Curriculum

About the Curriculum

“Let the child be the scriptwriter, director and the actor in their own play” - Magda Gerber

Nursery Space: 6 weeks – 2 years

Learning starts from before birth, and our Educators have created a welcoming and nurturing nursery environment where each baby feels safe to explore and discover new things - through their senses, their communication and cues (body language, facial expression and sounds) and through experimentation. On any given day you can see the nursery children engaging in all types of play including sensory play, music time, story time and more. Every day provides a brand new, exciting adventure for our babies to support their development, learning and wellbeing.

Toddler Space: 2 - 3 years

Our teachers and educators encourage the children to learn through play to help enhance their sensory-motor development. This happens through carefully planned music, dance, games, role playing and reading experiences.

On any given day the Toddlers can be seen developing their numeracy by building a tower, sorting objects, pointing and identifying shapes and patterns and participating in counting songs and games.

Children in our toddler space are encouraged to participate in group play. Group play is important as it helps our toddlers develop important social skills such as, turn-taking, developing self-confidence and emotional self-regulation. Our skilled team helps children through talking, planning and role modelling.

Kindergarten Space: 3 – 6 years

Kindergarten is a unique time for learning with peers and developing skills for later learning including confidence and curiosity, important skills for starting school. Our play-based program has school readiness at its core, encouraging active engagement in learning and supporting a range of positive developmental outcomes including resilience, independence, critical thinking and creativity.

The oral language supports literacy learning and a child’s oral language ability is the best predictor for later success in learning to read and write. Hearing the sounds within a language is the first critical step for all literacy learning. Our team supports our Kindergarten children's literacy development by engaging in rich discussions, reading, storytelling, dramatic play and experimentation all of which introduce new vocabulary as part of everyday conversations.

Throughout the Kindergarten year, children use their language to share ideas, ask questions, express themselves, and connect with peers and adults in social settings.

Social-emotional skills, including the ability to self-regulate emotions, are supported through group learning experiences. Our team supports each child’s social and emotional development by labelling and talking about emotions and supporting appropriate responses as together, they engage in new and challenging situations. Our goal in the Kindergarten year is to prepare children and families for a smooth transition to primary school.

Health and Nutrition

Health and Nutrition

Our centre chef prepares and cooks nutritious meals daily, catering to the unique dietary requirements of every child. We believe that by encouraging active participation (such as growing their own fruit and vegetables, preparing, and finally cooking!) children learn to appreciate and understand the importance of healthy eating across a wide variety of food.

Our centre offers seasonal whole food-based menus – created to delight the fussiest eaters.

Hi, my name is Alan, and I am the Centre Manager here at Jellybeans Subiaco. I am dedicated to creating a nurturing and supportive environment where children feel safe to explore, learn, and express themselves freely.

I began my career in Early Childhood Education in 2019 and joined the team at Jellybeans Como in 2022. In addition to my diploma, I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Literature and previously worked as a high school teacher. Transitioning from the high school setting to early childhood education has been a transformative and uplifting experience, deeply shaping my teaching philosophy. Understanding the profound impact that the early years have on a child’s development has allowed me to provide meaningful support to families as they nurture their children’s growth and well-being.

I am passionate about empowering children on their learning and life journey. I believe every child is unique and capable of remarkable growth. As an educator, I am dedicated to creating a nurturing and supportive environment where children feel safe to explore, learn, and express themselves freely.

Being part of a dedicated early childhood centre supports children’s emotional development and helps them cultivate essential social skills. At our centre, a team of qualified and passionate early childhood educators is committed to preparing your child for school and beyond.

We place great value on family involvement and actively encourage parents to participate in their child’s learning journey. We regularly seek feedback from families and focus on building strong, trusting relationships through open and effective communication.

I look forward to welcoming you to our Subiaco early education centre.

We couldn’t be happier or more grateful that our daughter has been able to attend Jellybeans Subiaco over the past 8 months! The educators are truly exceptional — warm, welcoming, attentive, and deeply connected with the children. What we love most is that this care extends across the whole centre; even educators from other rooms know and bond with our daughter. It makes transitions during holidays or sick leave feel completely seamless and reassuring for all of us, and we’re confident that when our daughter graduates from the nursery to the toddler room, she’ll be comfortable and settled in no time at all. The team also supports parents just as thoughtfully. From those early transition days to each new stage of development, we’ve always felt guided, understood, and cared for. They’re always happy to share their own experiences too, and we’ve learnt so many helpful little tricks from them — like trimming nails while our daughter sleeps to avoid tears. The managers (Rez and Alan) are equally wonderful — knowledgeable, approachable, and incredibly helpful with everything from enrollment, to navigating the Xplor app and childcare subsidy, and coping during the ups and downs of parenting. For instance, Alan called to check-in and see if there was anything they could do to help after a particularly tough sleep-deprived day. The centre itself is bright and beautiful, with a fantastic range of creative, physical, and educational activities tailored to each child’s interests. For example - they always include animal figurines to encourage our animal-crazy daughter to participate in activities, which we appreciate so much. Our daughter also adores the outdoor playground and the variety of thoughtful play station spaces she gets to explore each day. We’re genuinely so grateful to be part of this community. It’s a place filled with warmth, care, and people who truly love what they do. We’ll forever remember and be thankful for the educators and managers helping our little girl blossom.

The centre manager Rez is completely clueless when it comes to looking after children. All managing those who do, since Rez commenced at this centre, many good carers have left under her leadership. If you love your children, DO NOT bring them here while Rez is the manager. Rez will tell you what you want to hear but has no idea how to follow through. The owners of this business have made a grave mistake in the hiring of the current centre manager. Under her leadership, this business will definitely end up on a current affairs, which is a real shame as it’s in a really good location. Please do better.
