Child Care News for Parents & Carers
July 1, 2015
With all the debate over the new Paid Parental Leave since the budget, we look at the UK's shared parental leave. Could this be a solution for Australia? And Going Green blog's Lisa Bronner shares her lightbulb moment about getting her kids to eat healthy lunches.
Is shared parental leave the answer?
UK's new law kicks in
With Tony Abbott's extended Paid Parental Leave policy proposal (six months of paid parental leave at the person's normal wage) off the table due to "the state of the nation's finances", Australia is now in a bit of a quandary as to what to do about the issue of parental leave.

What's best for mother, father, children and of course, business? At the end of last year, new rights to allow parents to share leave following the birth or adoption of their child became law in the UK. This new ruling means that couples with babies due, or children matched or placed for adoption, after 5 April 2015 will be able to share leave.

So is this an idea we should be adopting here?

Get your kids to pack their own lunch
Inspiration from Going Green's Lisa Bronner
by Sophie Cross

When I saw this article on packed lunches on green guru Lisa Bronner's website, I just had to share, because it's inspirational, in the true sense. As in, I read it and a lightbulb went on! Ding. Doh. Of course.

If you've already managed to crack the healthy lunch box thing with your kids (and can prove they actually eat the contents - seriously can you?) then great, but I suspect, like me, the majority of you haven't either. You might think you have, but have your kids really bought into the healthy lunch concept?

This tip on packed lunches from "Green Mom", Lisa Bronner (of the famous Dr Bronner's Magic Soaps family), is as brilliant as it is simple:

Get them to pack their lunch themselves.

Doh! Why didn't I think of that.
