October highlights from ABC Kids Early Education
From 'World Space Week' and 'National Grandparents Day' to unofficial 'Wombat Day' and 'Superhero Week'! This month is jam-packed with worthy events to provoke interest and follow-up in early education and care.

Although there's a plethora of sparks for intentional teaching emerging from within your service and from the wider community, it's important to reflect on each planning motivation. What is influencing your curriculum decisions and how do those decisions align with the interests and experiences of children and families at your service?

ABC Kids Early Education is a popular online destination for parents and child care educators alike, packed with resources, videos and games for little ones. As part of Care for Kids' commitment to supporting the education of children from birth to school age, we have partnered with ABC Kids Early Education to bring you the latest information on topics that are relevant to you and the families attending your service. We're handing the reigns over to the ABC team, and they will share their practical and proven advice on how to achieve the best educational outcomes for the under 5's.
Tackling gender stereotypes in EC settings
There is no doubt gender stereotypes can cause harmful effects to children and adults. And, as awareness of these preconceptions arises early in life, educators are uniquely placed to support gender equality and to tackle rigid stereotypes that limit a child's behaviour and the possibilities they see for themselves.

Restrictive gender stereotypes perpetuate inequality and reinforce views about what a person will like or how they will behave, simply because they belong to a particular group.
10 books to inspire future conservationists
With the future of our planet in their hands, it's essential for us to educate young children about what they can do as individuals to protect the local environment, and how we can all work together to conserve, preserve and revive our planet and all who live on it.

And what's one of the best ways to educate and inspire young children? With stories of course!

Here's a short list of some great titles, old and new, that are designed to educate children about the dangers we are currently posing to the planet, to enlighten them about what can be done to lessen these dangers, and to inspire awe and wonder about our incredible world, so that they can see just why it is so worth saving.
