Early Childhood Education and Care News
April 21, 2020
Welcome, this week we take a look at some of the amazing ways early childhood services are reaching out to support their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic and we meet the wonderful Robyn Taifalos, a family day care educator from Condon, Queensland. Plus, it is art for Earth Day happening tomorrow 22 April.
Innovation and Compassion Driving Early Childhood Services response to lockdown
Early childhood education and care services continue to operate during the COVID-19 outbreak, unless closed for public health reasons, but with large numbers of families choosing to keep their youngsters home, many services are taking an innovative and amazingly nimble approach to staying connected with families and keeping children engaged in their learning while they are home.

Services both large and small have responded quickly and positively to the changed conditions and have started offering a range of resources to educate parents about COVID-19 and support them to educate and care for their children at home.

The wonderful thing about these offerings is that many of them are being made available to all families, not just those who are enrolled with a specific service, which increases the opportunities for all children at home to access high quality play based learning experiences.

We are delighted to highlight some of these initiatives below, and would ask you to please drop us a line (editor@careforkids.com.au) if your service has implemented an innovative way of delivering education initiatives to parents caring for their children at home.
Educator in the Spotlight: Robyn Taifalos
This week's Educator in the Spotlight is FDC educator Robyn Taifalos from Holistic Approach Family Day Care in Condon, Queensland.

Robyn has been an educator for more than 10 years and during this time she has not only mentored other educators, she has also promoted a wonderful team culture that is inclusive and trusting. Robyn continually reflects on her practices and is constantly working to improve her service to best meet the needs of the children and families in her care.
8 excellent activities for Earth Day
On Wednesday, April 22, Australia joins 175 other countries to mark International Earth Day, the world's largest environmental movement. The theme for this year's event is Climate Action, which is particularly relevant to all Australians after the extreme weather events we have all been affected by recently.

Of all the environmental challenges facing humanity, organisers of International Earth Day 2020 have identified climate change as the biggest and most catastrophic but also the challenge with vast opportunities for action and improvement.
