Child Care Industry News
November 25, 2014
Welcome to the final issue of Child Care Industry News for 2014. We wish you all a happy and peaceful holiday and look forward to working with you in 2015. This week our annual reminder on sun safety and effective strategies for promoting diversity and inclusiveness in early childhood settings.
Diversity and inclusiveness
A recent newspaper article about a Victorian early childhood education and care provider which stopped using the word black in the children's nursery rhyme baa baa black sheep over fears of racial connotations highlights the concerns of extreme political correctness.

While it is vital for early childhood education and care providers to provide excellent messaging and role modelling to small children about inclusiveness and racial stereotyping it's important to focus on the variables which have a real impact.

According to a flyer for early childhood providers on creating multicultural environments written by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services there is a clear curve of awareness children go through as they age.

Be sun smart

Reviewing your sun protection policies

The clocks have changed and the thermometer is rising. With summer fast approaching now is a great time to review your sun protection policies. Australia has the highest incidence on skin cancer in the world and overexposure to the sun in childhood is known to be a major cause of skin cancer in later life.

Early childhood education and care providers have an important role in teaching children about sun safety and must have a sun protection policy to meet ACECQA's requirements.

The SunSmart Early Childhood Program was set up by the state based Cancer Councils to help early childhood education and care providers plan and implement sun safe policies and it can also help providers bring out-of-date sun protection policies up-to-date with current recommendations.

Happy holidays
Rox, Mark & the team
It has been a fantastic year for us here at CareforKids.com.au and we'd like to say thanks for your continued support and encouragement.

This year we unveiled the brand new ChildcareJobs.com.au website to make it easier for Australia's early childhood sector to advertise and apply for jobs.

We also launched CareCorporate.com.au, the premier destination for Australian organisations seeking a better way of caring for employees while doing business.

In 2014 more than 3 million Australian families visited the CareforKids.com.au website to source and secure high quality child care and we enhanced the service with our unique Child Care Cost Widget to make it easier for parents to compare the average cost of child care by postcode.

We expect to launch 2015 with a bang when we unveil the new and improved CareforKids.com.au website.

From everyone here at CareforKids.com.au we wish you a happy and peaceful holiday season and we look forward to working with you in 2015.
