Wynnum Family Day Care
This month something a little different from the usual – we are profiling Wynnum Family Day Care in Queensland, a service which has gone from strength to strength.

Wynnum FDC was the first family day care service to be awarded the Excellent Rating by ACECQA and received this rating again at its most recent assessment.

This week we take a closer look at this outstanding service to find out just what makes them tick.
Halloween craft ideas
In case you haven't noticed today is Halloween (Tuesday 31 October). This kooky American celebration seems to grow bigger each year, with increasing numbers of kids (and parents) dressing up and hitting the streets for free lollies.

Although we, in Australia, are well into the sunshine of Spring in October, the dark and gloomy symbols of Halloween are very popular with children and we thought some activities involving ghosts, witches, spiders and bats would be fun to help you feel horribly Halloween-y.

Felt ghosts - Preschoolers will enjoy making their own cuddly mini ghost in this simple sewing activity.

Easy black bats - Simple paper cut-outs, glue and eyes are all you need for this collage.

Masking tape mummy - A quick and easy activity that is relatively mess free!

Spider fingers - A simple activity which uses scissors to encourage fine motor development.

Halloween full moon - Younger children might need help cutting out their bats but will enjoy gluing them on to their 'moon'.

Halloween moon mobiles - A more complicated version of the activity above which gives older kids the chance to turn their moon into a mobile.

Witch's hat - Create a coven of witches and have a crazy hat parade with this quick and easy activity.

Blob monsters - A colourful and fun idea that even the youngest kids will enjoy doing.

Pumpkin mosaic - Use Halloween themed colours to create a cute pumpkin collage.

Pumpkin plates - Paper plates form the basis for this activity which results in a gorgeous brightly coloured pumpkin.

Jack-o-lantern - Instructions on how to carve a pumpkin with the kids in your service and how to turn it into an educational and fun experience.

Thanks to www.activityvillage.co.uk and www.teaching-tiny-tots.com and www.notimeforflashcards.com for these awesome ideas.
