Child Care News for Parents & Carers
March 26, 2014
Welcome, a key issue for many working parents is whether the cost of child care makes it unviable to return to work and with so many variables to consider this can be a very tricky calculation. To make the process a lot more straightforward we are proud to introduce you to our unique new Cost Widget.

Also, make sure you enter our competition for a beautiful Mexican designed yoga mat bag from Aussie/Mexican company, Pick&Mex.
NEW child care cost widget

Average child care fees in your area

Year on year parents state the cost of child care as the most difficult thing about returning to work.

Of course we all know that inner city and more affluent suburbs will have the highest fees (due to higher land costs). Child care fees vary widely across different regions however, so it would be great to know in advance what costs you can expect.

CareforKids.com.au® has just launched something that may help - the Cost Widget. This unique tool enables parents to find out what the average fees are for child care centres by postcode.

For young families looking at child care for the first time, or for those who are thinking about returning to work or relocating, it's a great way to check out what the fees may be in a number of areas so you can plan your budget.

The cost widget works by checking and averaging fees for centre based care in a nominated postcode (we focused on child care centres as this is by far the most sought after type of care in Australia). If there is no fee information available in that postcode the widget widens out the search to include regional data.

The results are displayed instantly to give parents an accurate representation of the average cost of centre-based care in that area.

The cost widget's national average is the average price for all child care centres that have fee information published on CareforKids.com.au®.

This amazing new tool is powered by the huge database of more than 16,000+ child care providers listed with CareforKids.com.au®, the country's first and leading child care search service.

The system requires child care providers to regularly update their fee information, which means that the data supplied by the cost widget is the best possible representation of current fees in that geographical area.

Our enormous database means that even if some providers don't supply their fee information, we are still able to generate an accurate cost estimation based on the information supplied by other providers in the area.

Give it a go and remember the fee shown is the estimated cost before subsidies.

We have five exquisite yoga mat bags to give away

Mexican sisters Isabel and Jessica Marban founded Pick&Mex to provide the Australian market with uniquely designed accessories, clothing and homewares, all beautifully handcrafted by Mexican Artisans.

The Australian/Mexican design label is about empowering small Mexican craftsmen and women who often struggle to place their beautiful crafts in a world of mass production.

Some of their methods of production can be traced back to the Aztec and Mayan eras. Pick&Mex aims to keep these traditions alive and see the ancient Mexican Artisan culture to continue for many generations to come.

Since both sisters love yoga, one of the first products they were inspired to create is the beautiful oilcloth yoga mat bag. It's not only vibrant and colourful, but practical too. Its waterproof exterior means there is no excuse for skipping your yoga practice on a rainy day. The bag is 66 cm long and the diameter is 15 cm. And as we know yoga is the perfect way to unwind from the daily stresses of being a busy mum.

To celebrate the launch of Pick&Mex, the brand is giving away five beautiful yoga mat bags¹. Tell us in 25 words or less your favourite way to relax and unwind to go into the draw for one. 1. terms & conditions
