Physical activity is crucial for the healthy development of kids and early childhood education and care services are well placed to promote physical activity and wellbeing.

In addition Quality Area 2 (Children's Health and Safety) of the National Quality Framework requires child care providers to explicitly address physical activity by embedding it in the program and promoting it through planned and spontaneous learning experiences.

There are many advantages to encouraging physical activity in kids and ensuring young children have plenty of opportunities to get moving sets a great foundation for later life and instils confidence and self esteem.

What is your name?

My name is Justeene McKnight and I am 30.

Which centre do you work in? How many staff and children are in the centre?

I work at Amarina Early Learning Centre which is part of Campbelltown City Council. We have 10 staff and 46 children who attend the service over the week with a maximum of 29 per day.

What is your professional background and career experience?

I have worked with Campbelltown Council for 11 years in a range of roles including relief assistant, before and after school care assistant, senior assistant, vacation care supervisor, child care aide and nominated supervisor in both long day care and occasional care. I hold a Diploma in Community Services Centre Based Care and am currently enrolled in the Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management.
