Australian Family Early Education and Care Awards
Australia's outstanding early education and care professionals were recognised and celebrated at the 2014 Australian Family Early Education and Care Awards held in Sydney last week.
Assistant Minister for Education Ms Sussan Ley MP presented the national awards and this year's winners were:
- Early Childhood Director of the Year Bobbi Wheeler (pictured) of Milly Molly Mandy's (WA)
- Early Childhood Educator of the Year Julie Occhiuto of Tigger's Honeypot Child Care Centre (NSW)
- Early Childhood Service of the Year Balnarring Preschool (Vic).
This winners join Ellyn Taylor from Avalon Beach House Preschool who has already been announced as the 2014 national Rising Star.
Ms Ley congratulated the winners who were selected from a pool of 88 finalists from across Australia.
"I would like to whole-heartedly congratulate tonight's winners for their exemplary commitment to the high-quality education and care of our children. They are also ambassadors for the hard work undertaken by the thousands of educators and services across the sector," she said.
Managing Director of Australian Family Paul Clancy, who judged the awards along with Bernadette Dunn from Early Childhood Education, Mary A Cottee from the Occasional Child Care Association, Lesley Moreschi from Meerilinga Young Children's Foundation, Kellie McNamara from Coastwide Child and Family Services and Dr Sarah Ohi from Deakin University said the winners went above and beyond in their service to their local communities.
"…each winner is very deserving based on their ongoing professionalism, commitment to improvement and dedication to innovation," he said.
The winners receive a share in more than $75,000 of prizes including a $40,000 training and professional development grant.
