How to be a child care director
It's not as easy as ABC

child care director's manualEver wished there was an instruction manual to teach you how to be a child care director? Your prayers have been answered. The Community Child Care Co-operative NSW (CCCC) has just released a book titled: A Director's Manual: Managing an early education and care service in NSW.

The CCCC says the book attempts to fill the information void for people doing the important and complex job of running an early childhood education and care service.

CCCC CEO Leanne Gibbs says the manual has been part of their publications since 1988 and has been regularly revised and rewritten to reflect changing times and compliance needs.

"Managing an early education and care service in NSW is a complex job. Sometimes it can feel for those appointed to the role as if they have somehow mislaid the instruction manual. Our new Director's manual child care helps directors manage their services in the best way possible to achieve the highest possible standards," says Leanne.

Leanne says the book explains the underpinning of quality education and care service provision and how to achieve this and also contains a wide range of sample forms directors can use in their services as well as a range of information sources for securing accurate up-to-date information.

"A Director's Manual is an essential resource for service directors, as well as a key educational tool for students and those wishing to enter the field," says Leanne.

Information in the book is based on the knowledge and experience of staff in the CCCC and Children's Services Central as well as the expertise of a number of directors of education and care services. The book covers all the new tasks directors have to manage under the NQF as well information on:

  • managing money and resources
  • staff
  • compliance
  • planning
  • policy
  • children's safety
  • leadership and
  • advocacy of an education and care service
