» In Praise Of Child Care Workers
Having read the New Year Honours List and seen interviews with various of the honoured Australians, including an aged care worker, it comes to mind that after the year they've had we want to give our own honour to Australian child care workers everywhere. Despite the low levels of pay, sometimes difficult working conditions, industry upheaval and huge responsibility placed on the shoulders of these men and women every day, they continue to care for our children with the utmost love and dedication for little financial reward, so we would like to give a special Australia Day Honour to each and every child care worker in the country.

We'd be lost without you!

» CareforKids.com.au Annual Child Care Survey
» How does the Australian Child Care System
» measure up?
The CareforKids.com.au survey is now in its fourth year and it's really been a great way for us to find out what you really think about the Australian child care system and hear about your experiences.

The annual CareforKids.com.au survey will go out to all our members, colleagues and child care workers in the next month, but in the meantime, we'd like to know if you have any questions you think should be included in this year's survey – after all it's a national study of the child care system and your thoughts on it, so any input into the actual survey itself, not just the answers, is greatly valued.

Over 1500 parents responded in 2008. To see last year's questions, click here.

If you have any questions you'd like to pose please email: enquiries@careforkids.com.au before February 18th 2009.

» Everyday Mum's in Profile
» Tell us your story and receive a special gift
The Mum in Profile has been a great favourite of readers of the last year, and we'd like to find out more about everyday mums nationwide who juggle full or part time work (including self-employed mums as well as employed), study or just hectic lives with multiple children or other community and family responsibilities.

We'd be particularly keen to hear from those mums who found their child care on CareforKids.com.au in the last year.

Each mum we profile will receive a special gift from us… so download the questionnaire here and submit to us via email including a photo (Jpeg – less than 1mb).

» Mum In Profile – Kathleen de Leon Jones
As one of the original members of the world conquering children's entertainment group, Hi–5, Kathleen de Leon Jones is known by millions of children and their parents worldwide.

During her eight year tenure, Hi–5 won five ARIA Awards for Best Children's Album, three Logie Awards for Best Children's Program and a Helpmann Award.

She has often been the face of the Hi–5 merchandise and is one of the few members to have her own doll, three times over!

These days Kathleen is happy being a wife (to Daniel Jones, record producer and one half of the hugely successful duo, Savage Garden) and mum to 2½ year old Mikayla.

Roxanne Elliott

Welcome to the first edition of the CareforKids.com.au newsletter for '09

Happy New Year, Australia Day and Back to "School"! We hope you survived the holidays with your sanity still intact!

So it's back to school again after a year of uncertainty in the child care sector and we hope that most of you have your children safely in child care by now, but if your child's place is still under threat, don't forget to have a look on CareforKids.com.au Vacancy Super Search for child care facilities with current vacancies.

This month we stand in awe of, thanks and praise for child care workers nationwide and ask you to contribute to the annual CareforKids.com.au child care survey which will run again in March.

We'd also like to remind you that Valentines' Day is fast approaching so don't forget to book the babysitter for your hot date with a partner or friends. You can even win a Valentines' Day babysitter in this month's competition.

And this month we talk to one of the original Hi–5 cast members, Kathleen de Leon Jones as our Mum in Profile and ask you to put yourself or a friend forward as a profile mum.

You can also win copies of Playtime Hometime, a book specially designed to help children get used to their new day in child care or pre-school…

Until next month.
Roxanne.
