About Me...
Social Worker, Crisis Counsellor, Specialist Counsellor and Case Manager.
Obtaining my Master of Social Work (Professional Qualifying) through Southern Cross University, as well as working towards my Mental Health Social Worker Accreditation. My AASW student member number 475783
The Master of Social Work includes core content in child protection, cross-cultural practice, mental health and working with people from Indigenous people and groups. It covers essential theories and methods of social work practice including effective practice in working with individuals, groups and communities. My passion is utilising motivational interviewing techniques including problem solving, person-centred, strengths and solution focused, evidence based and anti-oppressive empowerment therapies.
I have five years’ specialist crisis counselling experience with Lifeline Australia’s 13 11 14 Suicide and Prevention Hotline and 1800Respects domestic family violence and sexual assault specialist counselling team. Working in a direct service delivery role with adults who may be experiencing complex suicidal tendencies, domestic family violence or sexual assault has been challenging and rewarding.
I have four years’ case management experience working with complex mental health and disability concerns. This role involved providing person-centred case-planning, community-based support and recreational life-skills programs to empower individuals capacity building and community engagement. This role also involved maintaining and assisting in developing networks with other agencies, volunteer groups and community organisations. I also completed a diploma of Leadership and Management with TAFE NSW in 2017, which provided me with additional skills in group facilitation and staff management.
My first degree was in Social Welfare, with Southern Cross University. This led me to gain skills in case management, community development, counselling, social research, social housing, policy work and advocacy as well as grief and loss counselling. Particular emphasis was placed on social justice and human rights as the basis for social welfare practice. My interests include government and non-government positions in fields such as employment services, community engagement, mental health services.
