IVHQ, Volunteer English Teacher
(Bali)
In January 2014 I participated in a volunteering program in Ubud, Bali. There, I was assigned the role of Kindergarten English teacher and along with one other volunteer, facilitated daily English classes for local three to six year olds. As part of this role, I was required to plan lessons the day before, compile all necessary equipment for the class activities and then execute them in an easy to understand way. I lived with 8 other female volunteers who came from all over the world and were participating in a wide variety of community development initiatives. From this experience I gained a keen appreciation for diversity in the workplace as well as for the reality of life in many developing countries and therefore the necessity for functioning, transparent and accountable governments.
