Employment

Since 17 years of age, I have worked closely with Professor Phillip Morgan from Newcastle University on his program DADDE, facilitating the program multiple times at different primary schools in the hunter area. This was my first real taste of what it is like to teach. Since then, I have continued to coach multiple young sporting teams through my school.

I have also been fortunate to work at the OOSH both before and after school taking responsibility to ensure the children are more active during their time before and after school.

This year I have also been lucky enough to work on the Burn 2 Learn program developed by Professor Dave Lubans, which is conducted in many secondary schools in NSW. This ongoing experience has further developed my communication skills as a teacher and developed my understanding of the most effective ways to teach PDHPE to all ages.

I have also done research assistant work for Dr Narelle Eather on her netball coaching program (Master of Coaching) and also for Dr Scot Imig’s program the Master of Teaching. These roles have developed my independence and team skills in the working environment and I always strive to make sure that my job is done to the best of my ability.

I have also worked for the AFL NSW/ACT on their in and out of school Auskick programs. Working with parents, other coaches and of course the wonderful children who participate in the programs. In my time since leaving school I have worked at two OOSH facilities, both on a casual basis. This experience has allowed me to develop excellent skills in this environment, which I really enjoy. The opportunity to be involved in planning, developing and organising is something I am extremely excited about but also creating a fun, relaxed, creative, active and healthy environment for the children outside of school hours.

I have had a lot of experience teaching both at in school sports programs and out of school programs. From this I have collected a wide range of effective ‘tools’ in my teaching ‘toolbox’. However, I know there is more to learn as teaching is a profession of lifelong learning.

I am seeking to gain more experience working in a family environment providing one on one care for the children I work with. I hope to develop skills of effective communication with the children as well as the parents.

I do work well in a team environment and strive to give everything I do a 100 percent effort.
