Employment

In home Nanny, West Pymble (2016- current) I met Nicole and Dylan Wynne when their oldest son attended POW Place childcare where I was employed. In 2016 Nicole asked me to Nanny her three-year-old and her newborn one day a week. I am currently still employed in this position on Wednesdays. Duties include: Interacting and supervising the youngest son 4 and walking to school to pick up the older son 6, meal preparation, bathing and light cleaning duties. During all our interactions (specially on our walks) I consciously take the time to enhance the children's curiosity and social skills whilst encouraging a good laugh. • Kindisaurus and Edward St Childcare (Since April 2019) Due to family commitments, I have recently been working casually at two centres, where I care for all ages 0-5 years. • Early Childhood Educator, Pagewood Kindergarten (May 2016-April 2019) When I started in this position, I quickly became the toddler group leader and continued in this position till December 2017. As the group leader I was responsible for implementing and creating the educational program for ages 2-3. During this time, I mentored a trainee who assisted me with the toddler program. Since January 2018 I have been working as a preschool educator assisting the ECT in preparing, applying and programming for the school readiness program. I believe my strengths are my abilities to engage children in interesting and interactive group experiences. For example: rather than just reading stories I often use the aid of singing books, plays, puppets and magic shows. I sometimes use yoga cards, meditation and Buddhist singing bowls to enhance mindfulness, cultural awareness and physical development and am able to connect with children of varying ages, backgrounds and cultures. I remember what it was like to be a child and I am naturally kind, nurturing and enjoy having fun with the children. I do not find this difficult as children have a natural gift to make me laugh. • POW Place Childcare (January 2006-January 2016) During this time I always worked the 2.30pm-10.30pm shift for a group of children called the Night Owls. It was family grouping made up of mixed ages from 0-5 years old. During my time there I also cared for a few children with special needs who ranged in ages from 6-9 years. My duties included caring for mixed aged children, settling at sleep times, bathing, putting them into their pyjamas, changing nappies, toilet training, preparing and serving meals. I conducted group times with mixed ages of up to17 children at a time, orientating new children, cleaning duties such as kitchen and laundry, yard supervision, photo taking. I also had to document the unique experiences of the children. I interacted with the children, supported and observed their learning through play and from these observations I extended their interests, regularly introducing games, group times and activities. For the ten years I was employed at the centre, I always did half of the portfolios and the daily reflections, both in the old format and then on the computer using the Early Years Learning Framework.
