Voluntary Employment History
My family has an interest in Railway Preservation; this is something that I enjoy doing with my family and friends. I decided to do my work experience in Year 10 at the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre. My duties included looking after the centre’s telephones, assisting with taking reservations for upcoming heritage train tours. I also worked closely on the site cleaning the railway carriages ready for trips and assisted in sorting out the food areas that they have on site. I was able to volunteer on one of their heritage train tours where I was assisting passengers on the day to their seats, giving them safety instructions for the trip and ensuring everyone had an enjoyable time on the Heritage Train.
Steamrail Victoria
As a volunteer at Steamrail Victoria in Newport, I was involved in the marketing committee and on train operations. This included kiosk duties and train officer duties on various tour trains around the Victorian Railway network. The duties involved interaction with passengers and required excellent customer service skills.
Diamond Valley Miniature Railway
As a volunteer at the Diamond Valley railway I attend most Sundays. I am qualified as a train driver and as a guard and I am currently serving on the Committee of Management. I hold the position of Station Master, which sees me dealing with up to 2500 passengers every Sunday. The position also requires me to co-ordinate train movements during running hours and to allocate trains to private bookings.
