  • » In this Economic climate we look at some cost saving child care options
moneyThis year really isn’t going well in terms of affordability of petrol, child care and general living expenses. The only reprieve at the moment is that some of the banks are lowering their mortgage rates.

With child care costs on the up, despite the increased child care benefit (depending on your income) and tax rebates, this month we’re looking at ways to cut a few costs.

  • » Mummy Wars ? are the new recommendations for Paid Maternity Leave Fair? Have your say
In last month’s newsletter we highlighted the Productivity Commission's initial recommendations for statutory paid maternity leave.  These recommendations have sparked new debate as to whether it’s unfair for working mums to be paid more for having babies than stay at home mums or Mummy Wars as the media is describing it (click here to see article).

Working mums will receive baby bonus, statutory paid maternity leave, child care benefit and the child care tax rebate, plus any other FTB allowances they may be eligible for depending on their income and if they are a single parent or in a two parent family.

  • » Getting kids to brush their teeth without protest!
Given this is an email newsletter and we can’t see you… hands up all parents reading this who have on more than one occasion given in on the morning brush time and rushed the kids into the car with less than pearly whites?

According to a new survey by Oral B, up to 85% of parents struggle to get their pre-schoolers to brush their teeth on a daily basis and for many of the parents; daily tooth brushing battles prove so stressful they simply give in halfway through the brushing process.

It’s not a new problem. I can remember going to all sorts of lengths to get out of brushing my teeth, and it seems lack of cooperation is still a big part of the problem with most children refusing to brush, simply sucking the toothpaste off the end of the brush or just messing around… Sound familiar?

October 2008

Roxanne Elliott

Welcome to the CareforKids.com.au newsletter for October 2008.

With the current economic climate, we look at nanny sharing and child care exchange as possible ways to cut back on child care costs.  We also clarify some of the confusion over nannies and other in home child carers with regards to child care benefit and tax rebate.

This month we want to know what you think about Mummy Wars as the media are calling it and the unions call for stay at home mums to be paid the same as working mums in child care benefit.

It's Spring Carnival time and Christmas will soon be upon us so better start thinking about booking in the babysitter for The Melbourne Cup or the annual Christmas shindig book a babysitter here!

This month's mum in profile is Simone Short, mum of four and founder of the Gidget Foundation for post natal depression.

We all know how hard it is to get small children to brush their teeth. This month Oral B lets us in on some new research and helpful tips and we have a competition to win an Oral B Stages goodie packs.

Until next month,

Roxanne.
