Welcome, a reminder on the ratio changes due to take effect in January and some interesting new research to show that aggression levels are no higher in kids who attend care.
Are you ready for the new ratios?
As most of you will be well aware, new educator to child ratios are creeping ever closer and are due to take effect on 1 January 2016 for services in the ACT, NSW, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia and Victoria. There are no changes in Tasmania and Western Australia where the ratios are already in place.

Phased introduction of the new ratios was agreed in 2009 to give services plenty of time to prepare for the changes and ACECQA says they are an essential part of the National Quality Framework (NQF).

As well as bringing national consistency to this area of the NQF, ACECQA says improved educator to child ratios support quality education and care by allowing staff to give more attention to each child.

Does child care lead to more aggressive behaviour in kids?
An interesting new study of 1,000 pre-school aged children in Norway has shown that time spent in early childhood education and care settings has little or no impact on aggressive behaviour in children.

Speaking to the Association for Psychological Science (APS), study lead, Eric Dearing from the Boston College, said the results should come as a great relief to parents worried about the long term impacts on behaviour for children in care.

"From a public perspective, our findings are important because they should help ease parents' fears about the potential harms of early non-parental child care," says Eric Dearing, lead author on the study and a psychological scientist at the Lynch School of Education, Boston College.
