We provide a unique experience in early childhood education and care, set within a homelike environment. Our rooms in our Manly child care centre are carefully planned to be nurturing, safe, and well resourced, along with open outdoor spaces to support the learning of all children. Our team of dedicated educators believes that it takes a village to raise a child and intentionally support their families in their parenting journey.
We know that the first five years shape your child’s development and learning for life. That’s why our daily programs are thoughtfully designed for intellectual, emotional, social and physical wellbeing and development. Curiosity, creativity and exploration are encouraged in a safe and supportive environment.
This strong foundation helps foster a lifelong love of learning.
Room to run, climb and play
Our two outdoor play areas in our Manly child care centre are spacious and grassy, with lots of shade from beautiful trees. Sandpits and climbing frames invite children to explore, climb and run. Younger children can venture confidently in their own separate play area.

About the curriculum
About the curriculum
Children in the Junior studio are developing their skills in confidence and independence, within a safe and secure environment. A consistent routine and familiar educators build a sense of security, so your child can confidently engage in learning. Socialisation will be gently encouraged and guided to help friendships and empathy form.
Your child’s growing independence is supported by caring educators who will help them take the first steps in toilet training. Educators will communicate openly with parents through conversation, as well as a daily record of your child’s eating, sleeping and toileting.
The play-based educational program is tailored to each child’s learning needs and ideas. Emerging intellectual, social, emotional, physical and language skills are built on and extended.
The children in the Senior studio are developing skills in friendships and cooperative play, with the help of their educators. The children are encouraged to explore and experiment in a safe space, and educators work with children’s own ideas to guide their learning.
Literacy and numeracy skills are developed through games, experiences and social interactions. Educators keep parents informed of the children’s day, including their learning, routines and any individualised information.
The state government funded kindergarten is led by university qualified teachers, with a focus on building the children’s capacity for responsibility and accountability for their own learning.
With the longer hours of a child care centre, the kindergarten children have an extended opportunity to access the curriculum, giving the children scope to work on long term projects of inquiry in order to empower them as 21st century thinkers and communicators.
The key for the children is to prepare them for the transition to formal education. The children make their learning visible through words, drawing, numbers, dance, painting, clay, music, movement, loose parts, transformative play and more.

At Mother Duck Manly, the focus of the educators is on reflective practice to ensure they understand all they can about children and their development; finding new and innovative ways to solve problems, engage in challenging tasks, and using information technology and print-based texts to find things out; giving children the gift of time to listen to their ideas and incorporate these into the curriculum; sustainable practices to teach the children how to be a valuable member of society; and teaching children skills beyond academics such as compassion, collaboration, empathy, kindness, grace and honesty.
Life is complicated, messy and at times very confusing. But it is also wonderful in so many ways. Our job as the adults in our children’s world is to not only support them in developing the skills needed to ‘handle’ this life, but to equip them with the tools needed to flourish in it. Our role is to walk alongside them, hand in hand, as we learn together to embrace life in full, in all its good and all its bad.
Hannah Fearne - Centre Franchisee/Educational Leader, Mother Duck Manly
As a mum and an early childhood educator my passion is to help all children and families feel included no matter what their abilities, background or history is. I aim to be an advocate for all children including those with additional needs, mental health challenges and cultural differences, endeavoring to provide them with the best quality care and education possible.
Kate Crossan - Nominated Supervisor, Mother Duck Manly
The most important thing that I hold onto each day as I go to work, is that I need to slow down and be in the moment with the children to truly understand and support them in their learning.
Katherine Fitzgerald - Kindergarten Teacher, Mother Duck Manly

Mother Duck’s own dietitian, Fiona Hinton, prepares the menus for the centre and has over 20 years of experience. Fiona specialises in real-life strategies and practical suggestions to convert nutrition advice into food kids will eat. Fiona has collaborated on several books, including one with best-selling children’s food writer Annabel Karmel, as well as training childcare staff in children’s nutrition.
The centre has a spacious outdoor café where the children come together to eat with their peers, siblings, and educators. The menu provides healthy, nutritious meals daily to children. This includes morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and fresh fruit throughout the day.
