My Planet Childcare Centre

At My Planet Childcare Centre we recognise that every child comes to the centre with a different set of experiences, talents, skills, ideas, interests and different needs. Our aim is to provide high quality care and education to encourage their uniqueness by creating a secure, warm, loving and nurturing environment that fosters the individual needs of each child.

Community Walkabout: the preschoolers visit the local community on foot, taking in the sights and sounds of the area. 

Incursions: either centre wide or room based, the children love extending on their learning from special visitors to the centre. These include visits from Healthy Harold, librarians from the Guildford Library, fire brigade and police officers, dancing and Taekwondo programs, chicks and duckling programs, and a reptile show.

Big school program: begins as soon as a child joins the centre. The older children go on weekly excursions to local schools in the area. They explore topics around safety at school, what to expect at school, making new friends, healthy food, and wearing school uniform.

Pet therapy program: the children love the centre’s pet rabbits in the toddler and preschool rooms.  This teaches them about caring for animals and ensuring their needs are met. 

Sustainability: the educators teach the children how to take care of the planet through the concept of the 6 R's: rethink/refuse, reflect, reuse/recycle, reduce, respect, and repair/restore.

Diversity program: the centre honours the diverse community that it is part of, and encourages the children to explore cultures from around the world including languages, food, activities, games, attire and music.

Library program: this allows children to take home books from the centre to read and return, to teach them about how a library works.

The educators see children as unique individuals who develop at their own pace. By providing enriching, meaningful and realistic opportunities children will explore, create, discover, and imagine.  The centre’s programs reflect planned (deliberate, purposeful and thoughtful) and emergent (spontaneous) experiences designed to support children’s development in all areas, giving them opportunities to become decision makers, motivated and inquisitive learners.

The children take part in experiences in small and large groups, with structured table top activities, floor based activities, indoor/outdoor independent play, and developmental play, all as part of the centre’s curriculum.

The children are cared for in the following age groupings:

• Baby Bumblebees – 6 weeks - 24 months 
• Toddler Tigers – 2 years - 3 years
• Preschool Pandas – 3 years - 6 years
• Preschool Penguins - 4 years - 6 years

My Planet Childcare Guildford aims to create an environment of trust and respect, where all of the educators and families work towards achieving a shared goal. The educators are seen as the centre’s most precious resource, and do all they can to provide them with a satisfying and safe working environment.

Community involvement is taken into account for all elements of the centre’s  program. They embrace diversity within the centre and the wider community, allowing the children to view this diversity with a sense of appreciation and wonder. 

The educators acknowledge that family is the most important and influential aspect in the lives of young children. They also believe that the partnership between parents and staff is crucial in providing the best care for each child. Parents and families are involved in all aspects of the curriculum and its implementation as it is central to ensuring continuity and progression in a child’s learning, development and future success.

Parents are able to access Earlyworks online, to view routine information, information about their child’s day, educational records and photos from the centre. 

The centre has overstaffed each room, allowing for higher than required educator to child ratios to be maintained. 

I believe that I have been given the opportunity to provide young children with a positive learning experience. I strive to model respect, patience and care for each child.

Children are learning all the time. Each child has the right to develop their skills in a safe environment. Trust plays a major role in the success of an early childhood program.

I believe in building a secure and trusting attachment with children. I feel when they feel safe and secure learning takes place. By providing a comfortable environment, children have opportunities to learn and develop.

Miss Laimun – Room Leader

All meals and snacks are prepared by a qualified cook each day, including breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late snack. The menu was developed to fit within the NSW Health Munch & Move guidelines. Families are encouraged to contribute recipes and ideas to the cook, as well as partaking in cooking activities with the children.

The centre undertakes cooking experiences with the children, even starting with an excursion to purchase the groceries. Families visit the centre and perform cooking activities with the children. Some of the children’s favourite meals are pasta with fresh tomato based sauce, lentils and rice with yogurt, and stir fry noodles.
