Ramsden Lawyers was founded on the Gold Coast by its managing partner, John Ramsden, in 2003. Starting as a commercial and property law firm, Ramsden Lawyers quickly established itself as one of the premier Gold Coast law firms across diverse practice areas. In 2019, Ramsden Lawyers opened offices in Sydney and, in 2023, opened an office in Brisbane.

Since our inception, Ramsden Lawyers has taken it upon ourselves always to provide a fresh and progressive approach when tailoring a solution for our clients. Whilst highly specialised in Commercial and Business Law, we quickly developed niche specialties in insolvency, tax planning, restructuring, business migration, intellectual property, commercial litigation, family law and more recently in corporate mergers and acquisitions and capital raising.

Having developed these areas of practice more substantially over the years, we now operate with a focus on seven (7) key practice groups in Commercial Law, Property Law, Migration Law, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Family Law, Wills & Estates and Personal Injury Law

By diversifying our practice into specialist groups, Ramsden Lawyers, in our own right, can claim to offer not only specialist expertise in these particular practice areas but also enjoy the benefits of operating as one single law practice where the knowledge base can be called upon and shared where necessary.

Ramsden Lawyers believes in setting the ‘new standard’ in the delivery of legal practice. With an emphasis on adapting to the ever-changing conditions of the business community, we are adamant that this sets us apart from others. We recognise that our clients are the ones who know best, and we are merely there to facilitate the best legal solutions.

De Facto Relationships

A de facto couple has the same rights as a married couple. Pursuant to family law a de facto relationship exists between a couple that is not married or related and that has lived together on a genuine domestic basis. This couple may be of the same or opposite sex. De facto relationships can exist between two people even if one of the parties is married or in a de facto relationship with another. If you are in a de facto relationship and would like to protect your entitlement moving forward, you might wish to enter into a binding financial agreement(what might be more commonly known as a cohabitation agreement).

Financial Agreements

Financial agreements are a means for couples (de facto or married) to opt out of the court’s jurisdiction to deal with financial matters (i.e. property settlements and spousal maintenance), and instead enter into a type of contract for the division of assets and spousal maintenance. A testamentary trust is a special type of trust established by a Will. It does not come into effect until after the death of the person making the Will, referred to as the “Testator”. Upon the death of the Testator, the property and assets of the deceased estate that the Testator wishes to leave to the trust are transferred to a trustee who holds on trust for the benefit of the trust’s beneficiaries. Testamentary trusts have considerable taxation and other financial planning advantages compared to a discretionary (family) trust or an estate with no trust structure.
