Study Bachelor of Education
(Early Childhood) at JCU - Online

James Cook University (JCU) offers a degree in Early Childhood Education that can be studied online from your own home allowing you to juggle family or other work with study. The course focuses on the education of children from birth to eight years of age, with particular emphasis on children from the preschool or preparatory year to Year 3. Early Childhood Education is a highly specialised field and this course is the most effective way to enter an early childhood teaching career. It prepares graduates for working in education and care services, including teaching in schools and preschools.

Course Highlights: You'll enjoy innovative teaching methods including online delivery of subjects. Gaining professional experience in schools is integral for education students at JCU and commences in the first year of study. This involves practical work in schools and a variety of other educational sites in rural and remote locations as well as wider community settings.

Career Opportunities: Teaching is a portable qualification and teachers are in demand throughout Australia and overseas. Many JCU graduates have taken the opportunity to travel and teach in Europe, Asia and North America. Pursuing an education degree does not mean your employment prospects will be limited to the classroom. Many graduates pursue fulfilling careers in children's services, family services, health education, community development and welfare agencies, educational attractions and support services for families.

Professional Recognition: Successful graduates can register with the Queensland College of Teachers.

Special Facilities: As JCU is a smaller regional university, teaching staff are accessible and can offer personal assistance. The School is equipped with micro teaching and computer laboratories, and the JCU libraries offer excellent resources and research facilities for education students.

Overview: The course is four years fulltime

Mode: On campus or external; full or part time plus professional placement in rural, remote and urban locations

Workload: Normal workload expectations are a minimum of 10 hours per week for every subject, including class contact hours, preparation and time spent on assessment tasks.
