Centre philosophy
Centre philosophy
All our thoughts, values and actions lead to providing a safe environment where children’s rights, needs, interests and voices underpin our decision making. We provide a play-based curriculum that is carefully considered to reflect each child’s interests, needs and voice.
Our curriculum is based on formative assessment. We recognise children as competent and capable learners who have their own rights and agency. We believe we are always learning. The UNCRC is a living document that underpins our policies, procedures and the planning cycle.
We recognise that children learn best in a social environment; and are influenced by their Funds of Knowledge and their community circles (Bronfenbrenner) We believe children’s optimal learning and development occurs when the environment provides holistic, multi modal opportunities for play.
This includes using natural, recycled & man-made resources in varied and creative ways. We highly value sensory play as a way to explore the world and our feelings. Our Educators use their professional judgement to provide learning experiences and teachable moments that foster developmental milestones and the Five Learning Outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework.
We plan experiences that stimulate children’s natural curiosity and a positive mindset. We promote a positive learning disposition through collaboration and considered questioning. Opportunities for this include but are not limited to cooking, experiments, gardening, early numeracy and early literacy experiences. To reach our maximum potential we need a healthy body.
Our menu, active play experiences and safe sleep practices help each child maintain their health and vitality. Meaningful relationships between all parties bring shared rewards and positive wellbeing. Educators ensure all interactions are fair, just and inclusive and will openly challenging biases.
We actively promote strong and meaningful partnerships with families, recognising families as the first and most influential teachers in their child’s lives. Our Educators are passionate about their role and value the positive influence they have on our children and families. We are passionate about providing a culturally safe space for all our educators, children and families.
We treasure our differences as opportunities to learn from one another; and opportunities to share joy together through recognised celebrations. Mutual respect is always at the forefront of our actions. Ancestral knowledge is highly valued in providing current and future learnings as well as ongoing connections to Country.
Life-long learning and ongoing critical reflection helps our team be the best educators they can be. This is demonstrated through our informed and contemporary decision making. We value feedback so we can improve. Children’s safety and wellbeing is at the centre of everything we do. We commit to having employees who are informed and prioritise Child Safety.
