Programs
Programs
The holistic program at Buttercups is designed to give children the skills they will need to succeed in life. They develop their communication and social skills while gaining a strong sense of their place in the world around them.
In addition to language, numeracy and literacy skills, the children also learn about sharing, problem solving and creative thinking. They participate in cooking, yoga, art and science activities as well as dramatic play, music and dance. The Kindy aged children complete the ELLA play-based language program to learn Chinese Mandarin.
There is also ample time for the children to spend in quiet reflection with a cosy area and library accessible and available to them.
The program is heavily tailored towards the children’s interests and strengths. The educators are experienced at taking a child’s interest and creating spontaneous activities that help them explore new concepts and thinking.
About the curriculum
About the curriculum
The Buttercups curriculum aligns with the Early Years Learning Framework and is taught across five rooms at the centre.
In the Poppy Room the focus is on safety and wellbeing for the babies. The educators work in partnership with the families to provide a routine that is consistent with home.
In the Lavender room, the same respect is given to the home routine. The children are encouraged to explore and develop their gross motor skills as they play alongside their peers.
In the Tulip Room, the toddlers have ample space and opportunities to investigate the world around them. The educators encourage their natural curiosity and help them to develop a holistic range of skills.
In the Daisy Room the pre-kindy children start preparing for the transition to big school. They develop their imaginations and learn important social and emotional skills they will carry with them for life.
In the Daffodil Room the children follow a play-based curriculum taught by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher. There is plenty of time for play and discovery alongside reaching their educational goals.
Meet the team
Meet the team
The team at Buttercups is made up of highly experienced and dedicated educators. Each person on the team is equally committed to helping the children in their care to learn and grow through a holistic early childhood education.
The educators work with the children to develop a positive relationship built on trust and understanding. They recognise each child for their unique skills and interests. They respect the voice of the child, understanding the importance of the children playing a guiding role in their own learning and development.
The educators are always learning and involved in ongoing professional development. This ensures they are across the latest thinking and research in the industry to continually evolve the program and curriculum at the centre.
The educator to child ratio is as follow in each of the rooms:
- Poppy Room (babies): 1 educator to every 4 babies
- Lavender Room: 1 educator to every 4 children
- Tulip Room (toddlers): 1 educator to every 5 children
- Daisy Room (pre-kindy): 1 educator to every 10 children
- Daffodil Room (kindy): 1 educator to every 10 children
Parent communication and involvement
Parent communication and involvement
The educators at Buttercups want to get to know each individual child and their family so they can tailor a program that meets the children’s needs. To support this they encourage and welcome open communication with parents.
Parents are invited to share family news, interests, birthdays and hobbies. They are also welcome to share their cultures and special celebrations with the centre. For the babies and younger children, the educators also work with the families to ensure the home routine is respected at the centre.
Recognising that parents prefer to communicate in different ways, the centre offers a number of different options and tools for communication. Educators may call parents or send emails as well as communicate with them at pick up and drop off. Where required, the educators also organise mid-year and end-of-year interviews.
To facilitate seamless communication and administration, the centre also uses the XPLOR Childcare App. This is free for parents to download and helps with managing bookings, health and other information in one convenient location.
