PHILOSOPHY
OVERVIEW
Shellharbour City Family Day Care (SCFDC) supports the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child declaration and believes family functioning is central to a child’s life. Children thrive in environments that facilitate opportunity to experience a sense of belonging and enhance overall learning which promotes future success.
This will be incorporated through ongoing commitment to the National Quality Standard for Child Care and Education and the system and compliance with state legislative requirements.
IN RELATION TO CHILDREN
•Educators and Child Care Unit Staff will plan and provide activities to harness each child’s individual qualities, interests and needs.
Governance of Management
Service Strengths
•Shellharbour City Family Day Care is a purpose built Family Day Care setting with well appointed activity rooms, a wide open and secure outdoor environment, maintained landscaping and play equipment.
•A full range of new resources which will be continually updated.
•A one-stop Enrolment Office (Child Care Unit) for parents to view an Education and Care Service setting. The Service consists of a unique Child friendly reception with a play area for children while parents are able to complete the enrolment process.
•Play Session for Educators will be held on a weekly basis for, Educators to network. Families and Educators as well as members from the community to access an established Family Day Care setting. This will also be a training environment for new Educators.
•Educators will embrace the commitment to exceptional standards in teaching the implementation of its emergent curriculum and the Early Years Learning Framework.
•We will offer children creative learning experiences to have access to e.g. art, craft and mini farm visits, music classes •Educators and parents will have access to Ezidebit payment for management of fee payment and Hub Works for Educators for their admistration duties with Child Care Management System (CCMS) for families.
Staff Positions/Organisational Structure
Shellharbour City Family Day Care Child Care Unit is responsible for the supervision of the Family Day Care service. Tasks undertaken by the Child Care Unit staff include:
•Arranging Childcare for parents
•Processing Childcare Benefit
•Managing the Family Day Care service operations and finances
•Recruiting Educators
The majority of the Child Development Officer’s time will be spent in the field visiting Educators.
•Training and Supporting Educators
•Monitoring quality of care in the Educators education and care service
•Liaising and networking with other agencies in the community
•Marketing Family Day Care as a quality service - one that caters for families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and those with special needs
•Guidance, support and on the job training through home visits
•Provision of resource materials, education books and CDs on early child development and health
•Provision of monthly in-service training by Early Childhood professionals
•Liaising between parents and Educators where appropriate

Shellharbour City Family Day Care education and care service has been approved under Section195 of the NEW TAX SYSTEM (Family Assistance) (Administration) ACT 1999 with effect from 5th March 2012. The Approved Provider (Licensee) Debra Casey will report child care information to the department electronically with the registered software Hub Works one portal for connecting Parents, Service and Government to use under the governments Child Care Management System (CCMS)
